Providing huge relief to students, the HRD minister has said the decision of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) to relax the eligibility criterion for JEE Advanced 2020 qualified candidates for IIT admissions. The decision was taken in a meeting between the JAB representatives and MHRD officials. The relaxation will be applicable only to students who have qualified JEE Advanced 2020 and for IIT admissions.

The boards had also announced their respective results using alternative assessment schemes based on performance in exams already conducted or internal assessment. All these years, for admissions to the IITs, students need to secure either minimum score of 75% marks in class XII Board exams or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations in addition to qualifying in JEE Advanced. A total of 2,50,000 students who have qualified in JEE Main every year are eligible to apply for the JEE Advanced exam.
