Indian School of Business overhauls PGP curriculum to enhance customisation and flexibility

isb

The Indian School of Business (ISB) has initiated a substantial review of its curriculum for the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) to better align with the dynamic needs of the business environment. This move aims to introduce a more personalised and adaptable structure to the program, reflecting its students’ diverse academic and professional backgrounds, ranging from engineering to the armed forces and from the arts to sports.

The updated curriculum will focus on three main areas: customisation, learnability, and ongoing renewal. Introducing a flexible program structure will allow students to tailor their education to their specific career aspirations, selecting up to 60 per cent of their program from an expanded list of elective credits. This is a significant shift from the traditional model, where core credits were more rigid.

Regarding teaching methods, ISB emphasises activity-based learning to enhance students’ ability to engage in continuous self-improvement. The school’s newly established Centre for Learning and Teaching Excellence will be instrumental in this area, ensuring that both content and curriculum design evolve to meet the needs of both students and the broader business landscape.

Additionally, ISB has updated its analytics offerings to include courses on cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), addressing the increasing demand for data-driven decision-making skills in business.

The structural changes also include the introduction of four ‘block weeks’ instead of the standard six-week terms, allowing for more intensive short-term courses that can be integrated into the usual term structure. This modification will enable students to engage more deeply with innovative and practical content in a condensed timeframe.

Moreover, ISB’s Office of Experiential Learning will enhance its focus on practical application by offering immersive experiences that connect classroom theory with real-world business practices through field immersions and industry-sponsored projects.

This comprehensive curriculum overhaul is a response to the global trends in business education. It is informed by ISB’s extensive research into the evolving educational landscape, aiming to prepare students for successful careers in a rapidly changing world.
