Top Tech graduates among new Secretarial Assistants

In a surprising revelation, it was found that out of 92 appointees to the post of Secretarial Assistants from the state of Jharkhand, nearly half of them held engineering degrees, from some of the premier institutes of the country including, the IITs and BITs.

A secretarial assistant is responsible for receiving, dispatching and tracking files and preparing proposals keeping with rules and regulations. Moreover, the minimum qualification to apply for this post is only a graduate degree. Those appointed can reach up to the post of a joint secretary, through promotion, over the years.

As per sources, there are a total of 1,313 secretarial assistant posts in the State Government departments. Of these, 985 are to be filled up through direct recruitment, while the remaining are required to be filled up by promoting upper division clerks, or through internal examination.

At present, only 656 posts have been filled up.

The process, which started in 2014, has reached its culmination now and a list of 104 names have been cleared. Of these 104 people, 48 hold engineering degrees.

dL View: Tech graduates from top institutes taking up secured and hassle free clerical jobs with the government and other sectors such as banking and railways does not reveal a very good picture of the motivational aspects of the candidate in general. These are posts which are eyed normally by non-tech graduates. The education system of our country has to take care of the motivational aspects also to produce sustainable outcomes.
