CLAT 2020 counselling to start from Oct 6

The CLAT 2020 Counselling Registrations is scheduled to commence from October 6, 2020. The National Law University of Study and Research in Law will commence the CLAT 2020 counselling procedure after the declaration of the CLAT 2020 results.

Candidates who qualify the CLAT 2020 cut off and are eligible for the counselling process for the 2020 admissions can visit the official website for further details.

The CLAT 2020 counselling applications will be made available on the official website of CLAT 2020. Students are required to complete the counselling process through the link provided online.

The counselling call letters for CLAT 2020 will be sent to the candidates to the individual students who qualify for the CLAT 2020 counselling process. The students who receive the call letters will have to register and complete the counselling fee payments along with selecting the NLUs in the order of preference and submit the NLU Admission fee.

The first admission list for CLAT 2020 will be released on the official website on October 9, 2020. Students who are selected in the first counselling list are required to accept and lock the seats and apple for an upgrade or exit the CLAT 2020 admission process as per the preference.

CLAT 2020 seat allotment will be conducted based on the preference entered by the students during the registrations for CLAT 2020 counselling followed by the merit rank of the candidate in the CLA 2020 exams.

DU college teachers boycott online classes over payment issues

To protest against delay in salaries, teachers from some Delhi University colleges on Monday boycotted online classes and official work. The 12 colleges are fully funded by the Delhi government.

The tussle between the Delhi govt and Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has been going on from last few days over the non-payment of fees. There were allegations against the DU colleges over misusing the funds meant for salaries, which colleges refuted.

The DUTA started cluster-wise strike on Monday, under which teaching staff from some colleges like Gargi College, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College and some others boycotted official duties.

The cluster strike will go on till October 1. The university administration and the Delhi government have been locked in a tussle over non-formation of governing bodies in 28 colleges partially or fully funded by the government.

Among them, 12 colleges are fully-funded by the government and they have alleged that the grants released by the city dispensation have been inadequate and they have not been able to pay salaries to their employees since May.

West Bengal to commence UG and PG classes from Dec 1

The West Bengal govt has decided to start the new academic session of both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in colleges and universities from December 1. The decision was taken after the meeting between Vice- Chancellors of state universities and West Bengal Higher Education Minister Partha Chatterjee.

Education Minister Partha Chatterjee told that in view of festivals like Lakshmi puja, Diwali, Chhat puja, Jagaddhatri puja lined up in the entire month of November, the meeting decided to start both UG and postgraduate academic sessions for 2020-2021 in colleges and universities respectively from December 1.

Chatterjee said, “As we need to sanitise the institution premises before starting the academic session in full course, we have to take into account the four-five festive days when no work will be possible.

So it will be in the fitness of things to start the new sessions from December.” He said since most universities have already adopted online teaching for the mid-semester courses and providing course materials to students who don’t have online facilities, starting the new session won’t be hopefully of many problems.

“Still whether the classes will be entirely online or there will also be the offline mode of teaching will depend on the situation at that time,” the minister added.

He said the decision taken at today’s meeting will be communicated to CM Mamata Banerjee.

SC asks UPSC to file reply on UPSC Prelims 2020

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Prelims 2020 examination scheduled for October 4, 2020 has not been postponed as yet. The Supreme Court has asked the UPSC to file its reply and reasons why the examination cannot be postponed. The matter has been adjourned till Wednesday – September 30, 2020.

Representing UPSC in the top court, Advocate Naresh Kaushik insisted that it was impossible to postpone the examination. He pointed out that the exam was supposed to be held on September 30 but was then pushed to October 4.

Justice Khanwilkar then asked him to file an affidavit in the court listing all the reasons for not postponing the examination. Advocate Anushree Kapadia representing the intervener, who is the father of a government officer also presented the matter to the court. The bench has asked the IA to be filed with the counsel and that UPSC would reply to the same in the affidavit which would be filed.

UPSC Prelims or UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination is conducted for recruitment of Group A and B Cadres in various Central Departments including IAS and IPS positions. The examination is usually conducted in the month of May but was postponed this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Arguing that the UPSC Prelims is a recruitment examination and not an academic exam, petitioners have requested the apex court to intervene and postpone the examination by 2 to 3 months to limit the risk of COVID19 spread in the country.

Odisha Govt to start “Radio Pathashala” for Class 1 to 8 students

Odisha Government has come up with an idea to hold “Radio Pathashala” to teach students of Class 1 to 8 in the state after the closure of schools across the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Odisha School Education Program Authority, this syllabus-based student educational program “Radio Pathashala” is going to be broadcast on All India Radio from September 28, every week from Monday to Friday between 10 am to 10:15 am to facilitate the continuous learning of students.

Bhupendra S Poonia, State Project Director, Odisha School Education Program Authority has asked all District Education Officers, all District Project Coordinators, all Block Education Officers to intimate all Headmasters and CRCCs to widely disseminate among the students and parents to listen to the program.

The program will be broadcast from all Radio Stations at the same time and will also be uploaded on DIKSHA platform.

In Unlock 4.0, the Ministry of Home Affairs had allowed to open schools for classes from 9th to 12th students from Sept 21st. Many states have allowed schools to open.

Delhi University’s academic session to start from Nov 18

According to reports, Delhi University’s new academic session will commence on November 18, while admissions for undergraduate courses under the first cut-off list will begin from October 12.

The premier varsity announced the admission schedule for undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Friday. According to the schedule released by the varsity, admissions under the first cut-off list will begin on October 12 and end on October 14. The last day of payment will be October 16.

Admissions under the second cut-off list will take place between October 19 and October 21, while the last date of payment will be October 23. Admissions under the third cut-off list will take place between October 26 to October 28, while admissions under subsequent cut-off list will be between November 2 to November 4, 2020. Admissions under the fifth cut-off list will be held between November 9 to November 11, 2020.

The new session will commence on November 18, while admissions under the special cut-off list will be between November 18 to November 20. In case vacant seats are left, further cut-offs may be announced by the varsity. For entrance-based undergraduate courses, admissions against the first merit list will happen between October 19 to October 21 while the last date of payment is October 23.

Punjabi University postpones exams till October 14

In a major development, Punjabi University Patiala has postponed the exams due to Punjab Bandh announced. The revised date sheet for the exam has been released on the official website informing about the exam that would be conducted on October 14, 2020.

As per the Controller of Exams, Punjabi University, Professor JIS Khattar, “the exam have been postponed as the students, principles of various colleges, and the representatives of private Colleges Associations brought to the notice about the Punjab Bandh. So the students and staff who are to appear for the exams would find it difficult to conduct these exams.”

The varsity has over 70,000 final year students in the campus, in affiliated colleges, constituent colleges etc. The possibility of conducting offline examinations at its centres had been ruled out earlier. Prof JIS Khattar, Controller Examinations, on September 9, 2020, released a notice stating that the theory exam would be conducted through online-offline blended mode. The students would be given two hours to answer 50 per cent of the questions on the paper.

All those students appearing would download the exam paper that would be provided through department heads. They would write answers on A-4 size sheets and upload them back on the website or do as directed. The students would be required to answer 50 per cent of the question paper.

Unacademy acquires UPSC preparation platform Coursavy

In a major development, Ed-tech platform Unacademy has acquired Coursavy, a platform for UPSC test preparation. The deal has been finalized for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition will further strengthen Unacademy’s leadership position in the UPSC test preparation market.

Earlier this year, Bengaluru-based Unacademy had acquired Kreatryx, and PrepLadder for $50 million, besides investing in Mastree, and taking over the custodianship of CodeChef.

Earlier, the unicorn form also announced raising around Rs 1,125 crore in a funding round led by Softbank Vision Fund 2 along with participation from existing investors, including Facebook.

“As we grow and strengthen our position as the leader in the test prep market, bringing Coursavy on board will play a strategic role for Unacademy in the UPSC examination category. At Unacademy, we are striving to democratise education in India and this acquisition is a step in that direction,” Unacademy Group co-founder and CEO Gaurav Munjal said.

Currently, Coursavy has various subject matter experts teaching over 70,000 learners through their YouTube channel and platform.

The statement said Coursavy educators, including Rathore, will now teach on the Unacademy platform and also provide mentorship to the existing educators on enhancing discipline among the aspirants.

The content from Coursavy will assist Unacademy educators in their live classes and help learners with their UPSC preparation, it added.

Pokhriyal: UGC issues guidelines for universities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) released the complete list of guidelines to be followed by universities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, said all merit-based admissions must be complete by the end of October and all remaining vacant seats filled by the end of November.

The UGC in the guidelines, said: “Merit/entrance based admissions to the first year programmes for the session 2020-21 be completed by the end of October 2020. The last date for admissions to fill up the remaining vacant seats shall be November 30. ”

“If the university faces difficulties in making admission as per the existing policy it may adopt alternative modes of admission processes, if otherwise legally tenable,” the UGC added. UGC has also instructed universities to follow a 6-day week pattern to compensate for the loss of classes.

The education minister had earlier revealed that classes for the new semester are set to begin from November 1, as per the UGC guidelines. Semester examinations for odd semesters are set to be conducted between March 6 and March 26, 2021. Exams for even semesters will be held from June 9 to June 21, 2021.

The UGC, in April, had released guidelines to start academic sessions from September but the increasing number of COVID-19 cases forced the commission to push the dates further down.

JEE Advanced Examinations 2020: Revised SOPs issued for students

With the examinations being conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, Indian Institute of Technology, the conducting body of the examination has released a set of guidelines to be followed by the students appearing for the exams.

The JEE Advanced Examinations are scheduled to be conducted from September 27, 2020.

Students appearing for the exams must make sure that they carry the JEE Advanced 2020 examination admit card. The link to download the JEE advanced 2020 admit card is available on the official website of JEE Advanced.

The examination will be conducted for a duration of 3 hours in two papers, Paper 1 will be conducted from 9 AM to 12 PM and Paper 2 will be conducted from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM in the online mode.

According to the notification released, adequate measures are implemented for the safety of all the students without compromising the high standards, sanctity and fairness of conducting the examinations.

Social distancing measures will also be implemented for the JEE Advanced 2020 according to the guidelines issued by the Government in order to ensure the health and safety of the candidates with the help of partners like TCS iON.

The seating arrangements in the examination centre will be sanitised before the exams begin. The equipment in the examination centre including the monitor, keyboard, mouse, webcam, desk and chairs will be sanitized along with the door handles, staircases, railings, lift buttons, wheelchairs etc. will also be disinfected.
