ITM Group launches PGDM

ITMITM Group of Institutions has announced the launch of its flagship course ‘ITM PGDM’ at the Noida Campus recently. Over the years, the ITM-PGDM has evolved as an intense, demanding program that has launched careers of thousands of students in India and internationally. ITM alumni have attained top positions at companies across the spectrum. The institute is inviting application for admission to various courses starting in July 2015. The minimum eligibility for application to the ITM PGDM programs is a Bachelors Degree from any AIU recognized University with minimum 50% marks aggregate. Final year students may also apply. In addition, candidates must have appeared for one of the following MBA Entrance Tests: CAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, ATMA, GMAT & State CET tests where applicable, and as per AICTE guidelines.

Higher education conference on ‘The future of Liberal Arts in India’

Ashoka University, O.P. Jindal Global University and Shiv Nadar University co-hosted a conference titled ‘The Future of Liberal Arts in India 2015’recently. Organized in collaboration with Carleton College, Yale-NUS, Claremont McKenna College, Pomona College, the Raman Research Institute and the University of Chicago Centre in New Delhi, the conference brought together senior leaders and faculty of higher education from institutions across India and the world.

The thought leaders discussed the challenges and opportunities for high quality teaching, scholarship and research for the liberal arts and sciences in India. The three-day conference focused on topics such as –  ‘Cultural trends in India – reconciling traditional and modern India’, ‘Innovative Approaches to Higher Education in the Humanities and Arts’, ‘Innovative Curriculum in Social Science and Sustainability’, ‘How Liberal Arts can foster Global Connections and Collaboration’, ‘Approaches of teaching and learning in research universities in India’.

C.Rajkumar, Vice Chancellor, Jindal Global University said, “Emphasis on engineering and medical education is so huge that the challenge is to break through this thinking. A course in liberal arts instills values.”

Rupamanjari Ghosh, Director, School of Natural Sciences and Dean of Research & Graduate Studies at Shiv Nadar University said, “The Liberal Studies curriculum offers flexibility to students to choose from multiple electives which help enhance their learning and engagement. The flexibility is essential for future readiness of students and equips them to face a very challenging future outside.”

Panel to probe CET goof-up

321624-board2Taking serious note of the gaffe with the Common Entrance Test (CET) question paper for postgraduate students in Maharashtra, the medical education department has decided to set up a panel to probe into the matter. A detailed enquiry report, conducted under the additional chief secretary (medical education) will be submitted within a week. Held on January 4 2015, the examination was for admissions to Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS). Around 9,815 students appeared for 792 seats in Maharashtra.

It may be mentioned that on March 24, DNA newspaper had reported ‘Maharashtra: 26 wrong questions on post-graduate Medical entrance exam’. It entailed that as a result of the blunder committed by Directorate of Medical Examination and Research (DMER) in setting wrong questions, the PG medical students will be gifted up to 43 marks flat in the Common Entrance Test (CET) of the state. DMER has to allot 26 marks to all students who appeared for PG-CET as that had wrong questions. In addition to this, the DMER also has to allot 17 marks for students who attended those questions where the optional answer was more than one.

Vinod Tawde, Minister of Medical education said, “We are taking a serious cognizance of DNA report, this is very serious matter hence we appointed a higher level enquiry under the supervision of  Medha Gadgil, Additional Chief secretary, Medical Education department. Anybody found guilty in this enquiry we will take a strict action. I ensure student should not suffer because of the DMER mistake.”

HDFC’s Deepak Parekh pitches for investment in education

deepak_parekhStressing that education is the key to unlock India’s demographic dividend, Deepak Parekh, Chairman of HDFC called for “aggressive” investments by the government as well as corporates in the sector. The eminent industry leader termed spending on education as abysmally low at 3 percent of GDP.

As the financial sector conglomerate headed by him launched its first school named HDFC School, Parekh said, “For a country like India, spending on education is abysmally low at 3 percent of GDP. India has one of the youngest populations in the world and effective investment in education will determine how well the population is educated and this in turn will enhance the productivity of the demographic dividend.”

“Though the allocation for the education sector has gone up progressively in the past decade, there is still a need that the Indian government and private sector invest aggressively in education sector going forward. There is a lot of innovation that can be brought into the education space and with this initiative, HDFC aims to create a visible impact on schooling system,” he added.

“New National Education Policy by December”

Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani recently announced that her ministry is working on a new National Education Policy (NEP) which would be formed by December 2015.

Furthermore, suggestions in this regard have been invited from the education ministers of all the states. “They have been asked to send their suggestions by November so that a universal education policy could be made for the whole country,” Irani said.

Meanwhile, the HRD Minister refuted claims that as a result of her differences with the Bharatiya Janta Party chief Amit Shah, she was dropped from BJP’s national executive committee. “No. I have no differences with him. He is like an elder brother to me. Global Pathways offers undergraduate Programs

IMA launches Delhi Chapter

Punjab University recognizes Third Gender on paper

transgenderDiminishing the gender divide in education, Punjab University set an example while working on including the transgendlearning environmenter category to the application forms, academic testimonials and other documents issued by the university.

The university has not only removed this discrimination against the transgender community but is also working on creating a transgender friendly infrastructure like washrooms, restrooms, etc in the campuses.

The campuses will hold the awareness workshop for teachers, students and other staff members in order to bring the left over section of society in the mainstream. This decision was taken after University Grants Commission communicated the higher education institutions regarding the judgment taken by the Supreme Court to give them their rights abide by the Constitution.
