
The Punjab government decided to reopen primary schools on January 27. Grades 3 and 4 schools will reopen on January 27 and grades 1 and 2 will reopen on February 1, 2021. All schools, including public, private and supported, will reopen next week. Elementary schools will reopen after 10 months.
Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla said in a statement: “Due to continued demand from parents, the state government has decided to reopen all schools for primary grades as of January 27. “
The hours remain the same from 10 a.m. at 3 p.m. and parents must give their written consent before sending their children to school. The minister instructed officials from the education department and the school administration to ensure proper cleaning of the facilities and classrooms and to strictly comply with Covid-19 safety standards in accordance with central government guidelines.

He added that detailed guidelines will be issued for all district presidents shortly and distributed to all public, attended and private schools. However, it will be the first state to reopen schools to elementary classes.
Previously, Punjab schools in grades 5-8 reopened in the state as of January 7. Class schedules remain the same and all government issued SOPs are followed. Previously, the government allowed students in grades 9-12 to attend school starting October 15.
