India’s digital education transformation has reached a major milestone, with more than 1.49 lakh schools now covered under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and digital learning initiatives, according to the government. The push is aimed at making education more accessible, technology-driven, and future-ready across the country.

As part of the initiative, over 1.76 lakh smart classrooms and 1.79 lakh ICT laboratories have been sanctioned to strengthen digital infrastructure and enhance classroom learning experiences.

Government-backed digital platforms have also significantly expanded their reach. SWAYAM now offers more than 18,580 courses, recording over 6.1 crore enrolments and 53.7 lakh certifications. Meanwhile, SWAYAM PRABHA, PM e-VIDYA, and DIKSHA continue to widen access to learning through television, radio, and digital resources. DIKSHA alone hosts more than 3.66 lakh e-content resources in 135 languages.

At the higher education level, the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative has expanded access to academic and research resources across 7,414 institutions, benefiting nearly 99 lakh students, researchers, and faculty members.

The government has also strengthened innovation and entrepreneurship through the Atal Innovation Mission, which has established over 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs, benefiting more than 1.1 crore students and supporting over 16 lakh projects in emerging technologies. Additionally, 72 Atal Incubation Centres have supported more than 6,700 startups and helped generate over 32,000 jobs.

The expansion of digital education and skill development initiatives is part of India’s broader vision to create a future-ready workforce and advance the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047, with technology, innovation, and inclusive learning at its core.
