Byrraju Foundation, a non-profit organization has launched technology and web-based services to facilitate rural transformation in India in the areas of health, education, agriculture, livelihood and knowledge sharing.
To this effect, online Patient information Management System developed by Satyam and supported by Oracle's Healthcare Transaction Base platform was launched. The foundation also launched research and training wing and a virtuaLab to support rural students. The Foundation showcased the cost effective virtual delivery of services in healthcare, education, adult literacy and livelihood through the Ashwini Centres. The Foundation has taken an initiative to set up rural business process outsourcing units called GramIT in southern Indian village Jallikakinada that employs 100 rural youth drawn from this and the surrounding villages. The Foundation also plans to set up one such BPO for every ten villages in the next phase and will thereafter further increase the number of GramITs (BPO units). GramIT currently provides transaction-processing services to Indian corporates and government departments.
