PM Narendra Modi to speak on National Education Policy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak on the new education policy today, as it completes its first anniversary. He will give the report card on what is the status of the policy and how the National Education Policy (NEP) has been implemented after it got approved by the Union Cabinet last year.

Modi will also address other policy issues in the education sector that are impacting teaching and learning. He will also focus on skill development as it is the need of the hour. He will address the nation today via video conferencing. The new NEP has replaced the 34 year old policy of 1986.

Prime Minister Modi will also launch the Academic Bank of Credit, which will provide multiple entry and exit options for students in higher education. He will launch Vidya Pravesh, a three month play based learning for Grade 1 students. NISHTHA 2.0 programme for teacher training designed by NCERT, SAFAL (Structured Assessment for Analyzing Learning Levels) will be launched, a competency-based assessment framework for Grades 3, 5 and 8 in CBSE schools is in its announcement and a website that will be AI (Artificial Intelligence based) will be announced. Moreover, the National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR) and National Education Technology Forum (NETF) will be launched here.

Newly-appointed Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will also be present at the event.

Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance examination registration begins

Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance exam

Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination (JNUEE 2021) has started the registration process on July 27, 2021. The examination will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in a computer mode.

The application will be available on the official website of the university at jnuexams.nta.ac.in. The NTA informed about this development in an official notice. The last date for submitting the application is August 27, 2021.

The examination will be conducted in two slots; the first slot will be between 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and the second slot will be held from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The question paper will have multiple choice questions and examination will be in english.

Rajasthan english medium govt. school receives 60,000 applications for admission to Class 1

The government English medium schools in Rajasthan have received three times more application forms for admission in Class 1. Around 60,000 applications have been received by the Mahatma Gandhi State Government Schools (English Medium). However, the total number of seats available in the school is 18,093.

To meet the requirements, the state’s education department added 168 schools last year. Today, there are 200 schools in the state in english medium. “This is only the third year since the English-medium schools came into operation and have earned the trust of people. Wherever the number of applicants is higher than available seats, a lottery system is adopted for selection,” Sourabh Swami, Director of Secondary Education, told a news agency recently.

The state government is planning to convert 330 existing government schools into english medium facilities. The reason for increasing interest among parents to admit their child to english medium is due to quality education.

The Mahatma Gandhi State Government Schools initially started from Class 1 to 8 and one class was added each year for the promoted students beyond 8th standards. Currently, the schools have more than 73,600 and the figure is likely to increase one lakh this year.

The Maharashtra government has decided to reduce the Syllabi by 25 percent for Class 1 to 12 in account of the ongoing COVID 19 crisis. “Based on deliberations held with various stakeholders & in view of the prevailing health emergency, we have decided to revise the syllabus for Std 1 to 12 for the academic year 2021-22, and reduce it by 25 per cent like last year,” the School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad tweeted recently.

It has been decided after discussions with other stakeholders and the emergency arising due to Covid, the state government has reduced the syllabi. “Based on deliberations held with various stakeholders & in view of the prevailing health emergency, we have decided to revise the syllabus for Std 1 to 12 for the academic year 2021-22, and reduce it by 25 per cent like last year,” Ms Gaikwad tweeted.

The government has reduced the syllabi so that the students are in a less stressful condition. The State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT) Maharashtra will notify soon on the same.

CAT 2021 application form expected to be releasing soon

The application form for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2021, will be released soon. The test will be administered by the prestigious institution Indian Institutes of Management (IIM).

CAT is a national level examination eligibility test for admission to the business schools in India. The test has three sections like verbal ability and reading capabilities, logical thinking and reasoning, data interpretation and quantitative aptitude.

The eligibility for CAT 2020 is graduation with 50 percent marks or equivalent from a recognised university. Reserved category students will get relaxation.

The candidates need to register themselves and fill the application form for further process. CAT scores are necessary for taking admission in the MBA programmes.

Edtech company, Unacademy announced the acquisition of Rheo TV. It is a platform that helps professional game streamers livestream their gameplays and monetize those feeds. Moreover, Unacademy will also fully acquire Rheo TV.

However, as part of the deal, there will be existing investors such as Lightspeed India Partners, Sequoia Capital India’s Surge, AET Fund, Phanindra Sama, Founder and Former CEO of RedBus, and Mahesh Narayanan, Ex-Country Head of Google Mobile. All these investors will fully exit.

Post the acquisition, Rheo TV founders Saksham Keshri and Prakash Kumar will join Relevel — an Unacademy Group company that seeks to revolutionise the Indian job market by enabling job-seekers to showcase their skills through tests, and secure employment at some of India’s top companies — as Co-Founders.

Madhya Pradesh schools will reopen today for Classes 11, 12

Madhya Pradesh to reopen schools from today. As the COVID 19 cases are declining, the state government has taken the decision to reopen schools with the strength of 50 percent.

The schools in Madhya Pradesh will continue with both offline and online classes to keep the learning momentum going. The schools will reopen for Classes 11 and 12 currently. However, Classes 9 and 10 will reopen from August 5.

According to the current SOPs, the classes will be held twice a week for Classes 11 and 12. It has been decided that Class 11 students will go to schools on Tuesdays and Fridays, Class 12 students will go on Mondays and Thursdays.

The state government has directed all officials to make sure teachers and other non-teaching staff are properly vaccinated. The government will also begin a vaccine campaign to ensure everyone gets their jabs soon.

CBSE likely to declare Class 12 results 2021 this week

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will declare Class 12 results this week. The result will be available on the official website of the board cbse.nic.in.

The education minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the developments. A total of 14 lakh students registered for the examination

Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) also said that the Class 12 results should be declared by July 31. The students are unhappy that the results declared on the basis of internal assessment can appear on offline exams once the COVID 19 situation is under control. The written exams are expected to be held between August 15 and September 15.

CBSE had earlier released a circular for schools that have not yet submitted marks to the board. The board had issued directives for such schools in the notice.

The board earlier was expected to declare the results by July 15 and the results cannot be declared now as the school did not submit the marks.

Moreover, the University of Delhi (DU) will also begin their admission process from August 2. This is a reason why the CBSE will declare the results this week.

Isha Kalia is the new Director General of School Education (DGSE) in Punjab

Strong-willed IAS officer of Punjab, Isha Kalia is the new Director General of School Education (DGSE) and appointed at the headquarters of the Punjab education department, Mohali. The 2009-batch IAS officer has been given additional charge as Secretary of Punjab School Education Board.

Earlier, she was posted as special secretary, department of health and family welfare in April 2020. She also has served as deputy commissioners of Hoshiarpur, Fazilka and Bathinda.

According to her, school education is an important sector in Punjab and she will do her best to fulfill the roles and responsibilities entrusted to her by the government.

ICSE, ISC declares Class 10 and 12 result today, check websites to know scores

CISCE will announce results

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) announced results of Class 10 (ICSE) and Class 12 (ISC) on Saturday. The pass percentage of ICSE is 99.98 percent and the pass percentage of ISC is 99.76 per cent.

Like last year, the board did not release any merit lists. The council had cancelled the Class 10 and 12 results in April due to the ongoing pandemic situation in the country. The marks have been given to the students on the basis of internal assessment.

In a note by the board’s Chief Executive Gerry Arathoon said, “This year has been an extremely difficult one for the entire country, with the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc and impacting every aspect of life, especially the educational sector. In spite of the severe crisis, the CISCE, has against all odds and difficult circumstances, prepared, and tabulated the results…The data submitted by the schools was analysed by a team of reputed statisticians from some of the premier institutions in the country, along with senior officials of the CISCE. While devising the methodology for computing marks, the endeavour was to ensure fairness to all candidates concerned to the best possible extent.”

Around 2,19,499 ICSE candidates, 2,19,454 passed and out of a total of 94,011 ISC candidates, 93,781 passed.
