AICTE: Institutes to decide on tech degree nomenclature

AICTE

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) will not be providing equivalence of nomenclatures for different engineering and technology branches for higher education or faculty recruitment purposes. The council said it is for the institution to take a call on them.

The technical education regulator had in 2017 published a gazette notification regarding major or core branches of engineering and their appropriate courses leading to a degree in Engineering or Technology for recruitment in teaching positions.

“In spite this, the council receives a large number of grievances from faculty members and requests from governments, Directorates of Technical Education (DTEs) pertaining to eligibility for faculty positions in the AICTE approved institutions,” an official order said.

“In view of the above, it is to clarify that, AICTE will not be providing equivalence to the qualifications obtained from the council approved institution and departments at any level for higher education purpose as well as for employment purpose,” it added.

“The list comprises all nomenclatures which AICTE had approved for their institutions to run. However, it is beyond the scope of AICTE to include and update from time to time the nomenclatures offered by various IITs, NITs, universities as these institutions are empowered to start courses with the approval of their board of governors or an academic council without the knowledge of AICTE,” member secretary Rajive Kumar had said.

‘ApnaIAS.com’, a one-stop digital platform for IAS aspirants

ApnaIAS

Nineleaps, a Bengaluru-based product engineering firm has launched ‘ApnaIAS.com’, a digital platform that helps the aspirants to practice and improve their essay writing skills, providing them with extensive practice material along with prompt and relevant feedback of the submitted essays.

By practicing with ’ApnaIAS.com’, an aspirant can exponentially improve their writing and obtain skills that can be the deciding factor in their success.

Traditionally, an aspirant works in silos where they read upon and understand various topics, manually search for potential essays to practice with, attempt these essays, and finally, send it to an evaluator either online or offline and get delayed feedback with a time gap of about a week.

Additionally, this feedback does not deal with the specifics of what was good or bad and usually remarks on the attempt at a very high-level. It is also apparent that the aspirant is seldom satisfied with it due to a lack of clarity in the areas of improvement.

‘ApnaIAS.com’ was conceived to facilitate and make this process easier by bringing everything onto a single platform. It strongly believes that if an aspirant devotes time to practice essays, they can drastically make up for the marks that they tend to lose in their general studies papers due to the effort-saturation point.

“As an aspirant myself, I have on occasion, struggled to find someone who will give me detailed and pointed feedback other than the traditional “GOOD” or “BAD”. It was not helping me improve but rather added to my anxiety and frustration. ‘ApnaIAS.com’ provides 5 attempts for each essay with the intention of improvement. We believe that the feedback from each attempt will help you improve and see the difference instantly” said Vineet Punnoose, Product Manager, ApnaIAS.

PM Modi: Responsibility to realise Swami Vivekananda’s vision

Narendra Modi PM

Unveiling a statue of Swami Vivekananda on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in the national capital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that one should be proud of one’s ideology but should not let it eclipse the national interest.

“The students’ hunger for ideas, debates and discussion, which used to be satisfied in Sabarmati Dhaba, has now found a new place under the statue of Swami Vivekananda. But it is wrong to think only on the basis of one’s ideology, which eclipses national interest. Everyone takes pride in their ideology today, which is natural. But we should follow our ideology in the line of the national interest and not against it. This statue should teach immense commitment and intense love towards our nation,” PM Modi wished, adding if there is one thing which has “hurt the democratic set-up of our country the most; it is giving priority to ideology over national interest.”

“Idea sharing and the flow of new thoughts should be enabled in the country. Our country is a vibrant democracy only because of this tradition,” he said.
