New India-UK bilateral scheme to facilitate UK students visit to India

A new India-UK bilateral scheme has been launched to facilitate collaborations between British Universities and their Indian counterparts. It will allow UK students to visit India during their studies.

The “UKEIRI Mobility Programme: Study in India” is an initiative of Universities UK International (UUKi) and British Council India. The programme is launched with an aim to generate up to 200 opportunities for undergraduate students at UK universities to visit India by March 2021.

Under the programme, traditionally under-represented groups will be given priority for their visit to India.

“International opportunities such as these can offer fantastic benefits to our UK students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to set them up for exciting, successful careers,” said UK Universities Minister Chris Skidmore.

“Not only do these opportunities offer students the chance to further their personal development through rich cultural and academic experiences in India, but they also help to develop our own ”global citizens” who are ready to succeed in an increasingly international marketplace,” he said.

Vivienne Stern, Director, Universities UK International, said, “We know that students who go abroad tend to do better academically and professionally.”

“This scheme will be good for individual students and good for UK universities, but it also fits neatly with the government of India’s goal to attract a greater number of international students and support the development of international networks for some of India’s strongest universities,” he added.

UGC releases list of fake universities with UP at the top

With the admission season in full swing, the University Grants Commission has released a list of 23 fake universities operational across the country.

The most number of fake educational institutes are in Uttar Pradesh followed by the National Capital Delhi. The eight educational institutions in the former are labelled as fake, while seven are from Delhi.

The purpose of issuing the list is to help students in avoid taking admissions to these institutions as it may hamper their growth in future.

BCECEB cancels Bihar NEET 2019 counseling; new dates released

In a recent development, Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) has cancelled the medical admissions after first round of counseling. The board, reportedly, has now released the fresh dates for Under Graduate Medical Admission Counselling (UGMAC).

Notably, BCECEB had previously conducted registration process for UGMAC and had also released the allotment list but later both allotment and admissions were called off by the board.

It is to be noted that the board will not allow any fresh registrations for the seats. Only those candidates who had registered for the NEET counseling earlier will be permitted to use the choice entry option and take part in the counselling process.

Bihar NEET Counselling 2019: The revised dates are as follows:

Starting Date for Editing of Choices: From 10:00 am on July 23
Last Date for Editing & Choice locking: July 25
Final Provisional Seat Allotment Result publication date: Till 4:00 pm on July 27

How TruMath has brought down the cost of education?

A good number of students flock to so many coaching classes all over India. Per batch has 100-150 students and each student pay 3k-5k per month. Statistics say 0.1% or even less number of students are successful through this model. Why is this rate race? The rate race is there to be in this 0.1% category and the rest 99% lack because the system is not right for them. In this way they are shelling so much yet they are not getting expected results. If you go to any Delhi NCR/Mumbai teacher, they will take Rs 60-70k per annum for the entire syllabus and if you go to any coaching institute they will take Rs 1-1.5 lakh per annum.

TruMath is providing the same quality education at lesser cost, so we have actually brought down the education cost. TruMath provides the best of teachers at the 1/10^th or 1/15^th of the mentioned price. This is a big achievement for us. Our next target is to bring down the cost further and make education affordable to everybody and nobody should be lagging just because they are not able to pay. That gap has already been filled. In the last year, we have got tremendous response. From 100 downloads in the first month, now we have 47k downloads and around 7,500 students have paid for the regular classes to join. With the help of TruMath regular classes, test and homework, every TruMath student who has joined us in the last year has crossed at least 85% marks in the board exams which is a very strong foundation for competitive examination also. We have 317 students out of that batch who has scored over 95% marks.

Why e-learning has a promising future in India?

In India the student-teacher ratio is very poor. There is lack of good teachers in India because quality people are not taking up teaching as profession; this creates a huge gap in quality teaching. Even those are present in this system; the focus is on mugging up the students. Education should build the base for the country. E-learning is meeting this gap by providing best education from the comfort of home where a teacher does not have to rush to anyplace and face hassles like traffic or other. Hence, e-learning is the future.

What is the scope of e-learning in tier II and tier III cities?

Acceptability is gradually growing in smaller cities. Registrations for TruMath classes are majorly from tier I cities including Delhi and Mumbai. However, around 35% registration we have received from smaller cities which shows people need this system and acceptability is growing there. In the last year, students who have enrolled with us have taken our “Repeat” classes. This shows they trust us which we take as a great achievement.

While the academics and curriculum of a school are important in the selection process, there are other criteria on the basis of which we find would be helpful in finding the best fit for you, and your child.

Future entry into schools – Unfortunately in today’s schooling landscape entry into the top schools is a challenge as they usually fill up their batch at the pre-school grade level. So, if you are clear on which institute you want your child to attend in the future it is best to secure their entry at the pre-primary level itself. This has the added advantage of your child getting well set into a system at a very young age and not having to break away and re-adjust in the future.
Teaching methods and expertise – Teachers have one of the highest impacts on any child’s life and a good pre-school teacher is trained to ensure that your child learns fundamental skills at an early age as well as develop the socio-emotional growth of your child. Understand how the school plans to teach your child by understanding the teaching methodology. Look carefully at how much the pre-school invests in training, developing and supporting their teachers and developing new programs. A good school is one in which the teachers are always learning new things as well.
Infrastructure and safety – At this young age children are still unable to advocate for themselves and thus it is important that the place they go to school is set up to ensure they are looked after and monitored constantly. Look for how much the school has invested in safety and care of the children by the use of CCTV, security and housekeeping staff. Pay equal importance to the school building, after all we want our children to spend a majority of their day in an environment which inspires and empowers them. School buildings reflect this through their use of natural light, colors, temperature, art work, and play areas.
Does the school match your philosophy? – This is probably the most important. Each school is a different ecosystem and has different culture. There will be schools that are more academically driven and some that are more holistic in their approach. Find one where you feel there is a match to what you want for your child.
Student to teacher ratio – In pre-school classrooms personal attention and knowing each child is key to getting them to engage in different activities. Thus, a healthy student to teacher ratio ensures that your child is given the proper attention and is connected with his teacher.

Make the right decision and ensure the correct life path for your child. By keeping these points in mind, you can ensure that the school you select most closely reflects the same ideals as your own, and builds an enriching environment for your children to learn and thrive in.

JNU begins academic session 2019-2020

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has kick started its academic session 2019-2020 with an orientation programme on July 19, 2019 (Friday).

JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar took to twitter to share the insights of the orientation program held at the campus.

“Today, an orientation program was conducted for JNU freshers. The program was hugely attended. Both the auditoriums were full. Had the opportunity to interact with some students and sit amongst them. Welcome freshers to JNU. Keep that smile and enthusiasm,” he wrote.

Kumar, an electrical engineering professor from IIT Delhi who took over as VC of JNU in 2016, started the culture of freshers orientation program in the University, four years ago.

“With a group of faculty members and staff who have worked hard to make the orientation program for the freshers of JNU a grand success. This is the fourth successive year of conducting the freshers orientation program in JNU. Thank you freshers for your overwhelming support,” he tweeted along with a few pictures from the program.

During the orientation, he talked about the challenges faced by the country.

“Although India shares with China the glory of being the two most ancient civilizations, it has contributed to the world and its cultures in various ways, but today it also faces many challenges,” said Kumar.

“While the students deserve congratulation for getting into JNU, the real challenge begins now in equipping themselves, and developing skills to be able to address the modern challenges India faces today,” he added.

“We should always take the challenges and problems before us as opportunities to improve and excel,” he said while motivating the newly inducted students.

DU releases 5th cut-off: Few seats still available after cancellations

The Delhi University (DU) released its fifth cut-off on July 20, 2019 (Friday) with just nominal seats available for admission. These seats are mostly for students from reserved category.

The varsity has come out with the list just a day before the first official working day of the new academic session.

So far, the University has witnessed the 67,000 enrollments for its 62,000 undergraduate seats for the session 2019-20.

Presently, most colleges are left with the seats that fall under the reserved categories; however, there are few popular courses in which student from unreserved category can still apply.

At Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC), the college has seats for students belonging to unreserved categories in the courses like: BA (Hons) in Economics, English, Journalism, Political Science, BCom and BCom (Hons).

Two of the most sought after courses this year – BA (Hons) in Economics and English, are still available for admission at Kirori Mal, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College and Kamala Nehru College.

Notably, opening up of seats is due to the students moving from one course to another that led to a lot of cancellations, as pointed out by Principals of several colleges.

If we talk about science courses, colleges like Daulat Ram College have seats in popular courses such as BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Chemistry. On the other hand, BSc (Hons) in Physics is still open for enrollments at colleges such as Ramjas College (95%), Deen Dayal Upadhaya College (94.66%), Dyal Singh College(92.66%), Rajdhani College (92%) and Maitreyi College (91.66%).

NATA July 2019 Exam Score Card released; know where to download

The score card for NATA 2019 examination has been released on the official website of National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). The exam was held on July 7, 2019.

The body released the NATA July 2019 answer key on July 8, 2019, one day after the exam. It was the first and final answer key for the exam as NATA refused to entertain any objections after that.

The scores for candidates who appeared for the NATA July 2019 exam was being calculated based on the answer key released.

The NATA 2019 score card will be available in two formats: a) Marks obtained out of 200 and in each component, b) Pass/Fail.

To qualify for the NATA-2019 there are certain criteria that a candidate needs to meet. They are:

A minimum 25% must be secured in MCQ portion (30 out of 120)
In drawing portion, a minimum of 25% marks (20 out of 80) must be scored
Overall qualifying marks (out of 200) would be calculated on post-exam statistics and at the discretion of the Council

ICAI declares CA CPT 2019 result

Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has declared the result of CA Common Proficiency Test (CPT) on its official website today, i.e. on July 18, 2019. The information given on the website said that CA CPT 2019 results will be released around 6 PM but it was released earlier than expected.

Students who appeared for the CA CPT 2019 examination can visit the official website of ICAI to check their results. Apart from this, the result can also be accessed at alternative website: icaiexam.icai.org, caresults.icai.org, icai.nic.in.

Steps to check CA CPT Result 2019

Visit the official website of ICAI — icai.org
Click on the link which reads, “Common Proficiency Test result”, on the homepage.
You will be redirected to the new page of ICAI website.
Enter your CPT roll number and date of birth to login
The CA CPT result will be displayed on the screen
Download the result document and take a print out for future reference.

ICAI had conducted the CA CPT in June 2019 at 250 nearly centres across the globe. A total of 21,930 students had appeared in the examination.

The CA CPT result can also be access on your mobile phones via SMS. Students just need to type CACPT (Space) CPT roll number and then send it to 58888. The service is available for all network providers.
