Technologies, Inc. announced about one-day Affordable Community Computing Workshop to be held at the National Computer Center in Manila, Philippines to coincide with the National e-Learning Conference on 27 November.
The Institute for Information Industry, the APEC Digital Opportunity Center and the Philippines Commission on Information and Communications Technology, the VIA pc-1 workshop would be hands-on seminar for representatives from NGOs, universities and the government in building and operating affordable computers based on the VIA pc1000 mainboard and Puppy Linux. The workshop systems would be exhibited at the Computer Center during the National e-Learning Conference. According to the Richard Brown, Vice President of Corporate Marketing, VIA Technologies, the high energy efficient pc-1 hardware and the flexible Puppy Linux GPL/free software combine to form a powerful solution for enabling community computing in all emerging markets. The workshop will bring together education and development programmes.
