Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai, Minister of Education, Nigeria, has mentioned of inability to effectively deploy Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in a sustainable manner, despite being aware of its transformational effects. She mentioned that the electronic learning was becoming a common platform for enhancing education delivery all over the world. After receiving the report of the Federal Government Implementation Committee on E- Learning, she spoke in Abuja shortly, describing that Nigeria had not been consistent with use of ICT but assured that e-learning initiative would be among her core areas of concentration in the next few months.
The minister explained that, the initiative would be pursued through Public Private Partnership (PPP) under the guidance of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission to guarantee its sustainability. In a presentation, the chairman of the Implementation Committee and Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Education Research and Development Council (NERDC), Prof. Godswill Obioma, highlighted the Implementation strategies of the initiative as contained in the report submitted to the minister.
