With the last round of counseling at the engineering colleges in Karnataka getting over for this year, it has been realised that an alarming number of 8,691 seats in the private quota have been left vacant. Additionally, around 5,000 seats in the common entrance test government quota are still lying vacant. The government had announced earlier this week that a special counseling round will be held for students who have cleared their pre-university courses in the supplementary chance. Last year the number of vacant seats were 11,300. Even though there was a dip in the demand of seats in engineering colleges, around 3,500 more seats were added to them last year.
There are 15,036 seats in the private quota, out of which 8,961 seats have been left untaken. In the government quota, seats are available at subsidised fees. Even then, 5,000 seats from the 30,000 seats have remained vacant. The reason sought behind the above is that there is a huge number of sanctioned engineering colleges.
