Student placement adaptability during COVID‐19

Dr. Ravi Gupra

Amid growing concerns about the spread of COVID-19, many companies have suspended their referral process. Indian universities face a difficult year of discontinuous recruitment on campus as the pandemic affects companies around the world. Generally, most business and engineering schools conduct on-campus internships between December and April of each year. While many students have already been placed, some are still struggling to find a good job offer.

India has become a global player in areas such as information technology and pharmaceuticals. The best companies look for jobs for the best students. But how can you, as a student, bring your personal interests to the right career field? How do you choose a course that leads to the best deals? And above all, how do you get in touch with today’s top employers?

The goal of the internship programs is to help students find employment in their academic field. These programs are generally led by a faculty member and provide guidance, career advice, and a variety of professional development activities such as: B. Gaining interview skills, writing a resume, organizing preliminary interviews, leading group discussions, and more.

Internships are usually an essential part of the course. The university continues to monitor the situation and we are working with our regular internship providers to ensure that our students have a safe internship experience, even when other aspects of the course are offered online. If public health measures limit internships in September, other arrangements are planned and the course teams will share this information as appropriate.

Despite India’s economic downturn, job placement programs continue to successfully match avid students and employers.

In this issue of digitalLEARNING Magazine, we have tried to put various private universities on the list over their placement records. The issue has interviews and articles from many eminent academicians from the education stakeholders.

AICTE: Mathematics and Physics not compulsory for engineering aspirants

engeneering studaents

The All Council for Technical Education has published its guide for the 2021-2022 approval process. According to the AICTE textbook, the admissions criteria for UG endorsements have been changed, according to which 12th grade mathematics and physics are not required for aspiring engineers.

Mathematics and Physics students in class 12 must be admitted to the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E / B.Tech). Students can now choose from three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Computer Science, Electronics, Computer Science, Information, Practice, Vocational Technical, Biotechnology, Agriculture, Business Administration, Graphic Engineering, and Entrepreneurship.

According to the passing manual, students must select three subjects from the list above. Students in the unreserved category must have a minimum of 45 percentage points, and students in the reserved category must have 40 percentage points to pass grade 12. Students also receive a bridge course in mathematics, physics, and engineering at universities in the United States.

Also read: AICTE join hands with simplilearn to skill students

The new changes in AICTE have already been criticized, as grade 12 mathematics is considered the foundation of engineering. The bridge course cannot replace grade 12. Mathematics is considered the only remedial course and the engineering program includes mathematics through the fifth semester.

The president of AICTE said that this is not optional but that technical opinions have been broadened for the engineering discipline. There will also be different compulsory courses for different disciplines. According to Esport, various courses such as data science and artificial intelligence will require a high level of mathematical understanding, so AICTE should reconsider the changes to the 2021-22 Approval Process Manual.

Desktop Virtualization new tool to adapt for Higher Education

logo-dell

Today’s Higher Education environment is shaped by the changing expectations of students in the face of their increasingly diverse computing needs. Institutions of higher education strive to create student-friendly IT infrastructures that support students’ desire to bring their own mobile devices to campus. Gone are the days when these colleges and universities exercised control over students by regulating everything from lab hours to acceptable computing devices.

Apparently overnight, the roles of students and schools changed 180 degrees, and students now dictated the terms of their intended user experience, including using a combination of mobile devices to access apps and data from their homes, bedrooms or anywhere and anytime. To maximize their educational experience, students want to work more efficiently and comfortably. This means that 24/7 IT support is available for all devices. All of this happens when higher education budgets, staff, and IT resources are limited, making it difficult to respond to help desk calls, maintain computer lab hours, and keep the system secure.

Desktop virtualization offers six main benefits. Desktop virtualization:

  • Centralized Management – Desktop virtualization centralizes the management of local computer labs and data center equipment for the main campus and remote sites. This saves time and money that would otherwise be spent on remote updates and other site visits. Dell Technologies can play a major role in providing desktop virtualization to Higher Education Institutions.
  • Help Desk Calls Slash – One of the biggest benefits of desktop virtualization is the ability to dramatically reduce the number of help desk calls, as students, teachers, and more staff have a consistent user experience that is no longer available in different browser versions. , Java versions, etc. It is regulated and the device platforms are compatible with all applications.

Future-proof technology infrastructure: Desktop virtualization enables higher education institutions to have future-proof technologies by providing a framework to support new devices as they become available. For example, if a student comes to campus with the latest device (for example, Google Glass) and wants to access her classes, desktop virtualization simply allows her to open a browser and access a Windows desktop.

  • Enables rapid application deployment – This is a welcome feature for teachers as it allows them to easily implement the latest and greatest tools.
  • Enables High Performance Computing – This is an important benefit for students that enables ubiquitous desktop performance and quick access to lab files after hours. For example, a student in an architecture course could work on a design that would require the performance of a graphics workstation in a 3D computer lab on campus. If the lab closes before the student’s work is completed, the student can return to their dorm, use a laptop to access a secure virtual workstation with the required graphics capabilities, and then complete the work.
  • Reduce hardware and energy costs: With Dell’s programme, a student’s smartphones, tablets, or televisions can become virtual desktops. This can discourage an institution of higher education from having to install more computer labs. Zero and thin clients used with virtual desktops in computer labs also save money by consuming less power than traditional PCs.

Dell Technologies has led the way in the virtualization industry, including desktop virtualization. Many higher education institutions depend on Dell Technologies mature, reliable solutions, recognized quality, and customer support.
