NTA to declare NEET UG 2020 results soon

The Union Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal said that the NEET UG 2020 result will be declared soon. According to earlier reports, the result was expected to be declared before October 12.

National Testing Agency (NTA) had conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG exam on September 13 and the answer keys for the same was released on September 28. Once the result is declared, all candidates can access them on the official website, ntaneet.nic.in

NEET UG exam is conducted for admissions to various medical and dental undergraduate courses across the country including the AIIMS and JIPMER. This year the exam was scheduled to be conducted on May 3 but was postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdoown. The exam was eventually conducted on September 13.

Once the result is declared, the counseling and admission process will begin.

UGC declares 24 Universities as fake; check list

In a major development, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced a list of 24 self-styled, unrecognised institutions in the country. The UGC termed them as fake with the maximum of them operating from UP followed by Delhi.

“Students and public are informed that currently 24 self-styled, unrecognised institutions are functioning in contravention of the UGC Act, which have been declared as fake universities and these are not empowered to confer any degree,” UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain said.

While eight of these universities are from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi has seven, and Odisha and West Bengal two each.

Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry and Maharashtra have one such fake university each.

Bhimaraya Metri appointed as new director of IIM Nagpur

Bhimaraya Metri, has been appointed the new director of IIM Nagpur. Metri was former director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Trichy.

Bhimaraya Metri took charge as the new director of the institute on October 6 and has taken over from L S Murty, who helmed the institute from 2017 to 2020.

Metri has also taught at L&T Institute of Project Management Vadodara, MDI Gurgaon, IMI New Delhi, and BITS Pilani. Metri has obtained PhD from IIT Bombay and is also an alumnus of the Government College of Engineering, Karad, and Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Under his dynamic leadership, IIM Tiruchirappalli has attained a position among the league of top business schools in India.

He is currently serving as chairperson of various national institutions, such as the All India Board of Management Studies, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi; AIMA Board of Studies, Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi.

99 new Navodaya Vidyalayas to be constructed in backward areas

In a major development, the Union Education Ministry will be constructing 99 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country in the backward areas with a concentration of Minority communities. The information was provided during the function of laying the foundation stone for the new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Pakur, Jharkhand which was done by the Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal via video conferencing.

Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi further stated that many of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are being constructed jointly under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Minority Affairs. The new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is being constructed by the Minority Affairs Ministry under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram.

The Minister also stated that the Education Ministry and the Minority Affairs Ministry are jointly constructing four Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas at Uttar Dinajpur and Howrah in West Bengal, West Kamang in Arunachal Pradesh, and Mamit in Manipur.

The minister further stated that the financial assistance of Rs 224 Crore will be provided for the construction of the new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has also allotted Rs 36 crore to 1.173 smart classrooms in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in the backward and minority concentrated areas of the country. The new Navodayala Vidyalayas will play an important role in providing quality and affordable education to the students from the backward regions of the country.

CBSE launches practical workbook for mathematics

CBSE launches practical workbook

To boost students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), launched a practical workbook for mathematics to aid students of Classes 7 to 10 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students can access the workbook through the CBSE’s official website, cbse.nic.in, and through the DIKSHA platform. DIKSHA is an online platform launched by the Ministry of Education to provide relevant learning material to students and teachers.

Union Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said: “CBSE, under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, has launched an exploratory mathematics practice book for learners. Students of classes 7th-10th can access the book for fun-filled, exciting learning at CBSE.”

The Ministry of Education has also released guidelines on the precautions that are to be taken by the states that choose to reopen. However, the ministry also said that online education will be a part of the process.

Pokhriyal urges JEE Advanced 2020 toppers to do research for India

Pokhriyal urges JEE Advanced 2020

To boost the morale of students, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank called the three toppers of JEE Advanced 2020 to congratulate them on their success. Speaking to the three students – Chirag, Bhuven and Vaibhav, Pokhriyal spoke about their aspirations and also reminded them of the various research schemes now available for students in the country.

Pokhriyal first spoke with JEE Advanced AIR 1 Chirag Falor and congratulated him. Chirag, though has topped the JEE Advanced examination, would not be joining any IIT as he has been admitted to MIT.

Chirag reminded the Education Minister that they have met before under the ‘Dhruv’ Scheme and was replied with a positive. Next the minister called Bhuvan and Vaibhav, AIR 2 and 3 respectively and congratulated them. Both the toppers shared that they would be joining IIT Bombay’s Computer Science program.

Karnataka private schools request state govt to reopen schools

Private schools in Karnataka, wrote to the state government asking it to allow the reopening of schools for students in classes 9 to 12.  The letter said Karnataka Education Minister S Suresh Kumar, included suggestions on measures that schools can take to ensure everyone’s safety.

Another proposed measure was that only three hours of classes should be allowed for the first month with no lunch or snacks allowed.

“Compulsory SOP are to be maintained and daily checking and reading of temperature of every child and teacher to be maintained at all public and private schools,” read the letter.

It also mentioned that no mass gatherings, including prayers, should be conducted and regular sanitisation of the school campus must be done.

The letter also highlighted the questions that the state government needs to prepare itself for. “If any teacher/ staff/ non-teaching staff/ student is suspected COVID-19, either symptoms or primary contact, what education institutes should do?”,= the letter asked.

In the letter, it was also requested that the state government think of measures to quarantine students and teachers in the event of COVID-19 cases.

UPSC releases UPSC CMS admit card 2020

UPSC CMS admit card 2020

In a major development, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the admit card for the combined medical services (CMS) exam 2020. The admit card has been releases on its official website, upsc.gov.in. The exam is scheduled to be held on October 22. Paper-I will be held from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and paper II from 2 to 4 pm.

The UPSC CMS admit card mentions name, roll number, registration ID, and year of the examination. In case any of the information is wrong, students need to connect with the UPSC immediately. Since the exam, is being held amid a pandemic, wearing a mask/face cover is mandatory for all candidates. Candidates without mask/face cover will not be allowed entry into the venue, as per the official notice.

No candidate will be allowed to appear for the exam without a valid admit card. Candidates who do not have a clear photograph on the e-admit card will have to bring a photo identity proof.

NCERT inks deal with ISLRTC to develop sign languages

NCERT inks deal with ISLRTC

In a major move, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), inked a deal with the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center (ISLRTC) to come up with resources to standardize the Indian Sign Language.

The deal was signed on the occasion of the 60th foundation day of NCERT. Speaking at the occasion, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said, “This new initiative by the NCERT and ISLRTC for the specially abled children, especially for those who cannot hear or speak, will help to guide them along with the rest of the students in terms of education.”

The ISLRTC, launched by the Ministry of Education in 2015, is an institute focused on developing resources for specially abled children. Officials said that the priority will be to convert textbooks into the Indian Sign Language for Classes 1 to 5 and later for Classes 6 to 12.

Anita Karwal, secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, said: “The focus of the National Education Policy is on multilingualism. The Indian Sign Language is part of it not only for inclusion but as a language for all students to learn. Karwal also urged state officials to develop a module that ensures that all children will learn the Indian Sign Language and not just the specially-abled.

Karwal also urged state authorities to work on inputs for the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) which is to be launched by 2020-21 as per the National Education Policy.

CBSE commences registration process for Board examinations 2021

In a major move, CBSE has started the registration process for CBSE Board examinations 2021. The CBSE Board 2021 registrations include filling up the exam forms for students of classes 10 and 12 as well registrations for students of Class 9 and 11.

Affiliated schools are required to register the students of classes 9 and 11 for the Board examinations. The last date to complete the registration process and submit the List of Candidates (LOC) for CBSE 2021 board exams is 15th October 2020.

The registration process of Class 9 and 11 students is the official enrolment of the student with the CBSE Board. This registration process is mandatory for a student to appear in the board examinations.

The CBSE affiliated schools are required to submit a list of students to the board after due checking and processing. The students’ details that are required to be filled during registration process include date of birth, father’s name, mother’s name, Aadhar card number, subject details etc.

CBSE has not announced any changes in the academic calendar, as yet. The date sheet for CBSE Board exams 2021 is likely to be released by the end of November. The released of datesheet for CBSE Board exams 2021 has been delayed this year owing to the pandemic.

As per expert opinion, the schedule of board exams for 2021 will be decided only after understanding re-opening of schools for Classes 9 to 12.
