HC asks Delhi govt to handle anxiety of students during online classes

Keeping the safety of children in mind, Delhi High Court has asked Delhi government to treat as a representation a plea seeking directions to provide “online mindfulness classes” to all government and private school students to release stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses.

A division bench of Justice JR Midha and Justice Brijesh Sethi disposed of the public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions to Union Ministry of Human Resource Development and State governments for providing online mindfulness classes for meditation, yoga, and relaxation to the students.

The High Court also directed the government to take decisions within four weeks and further communicate it to the petitioners within two weeks what decision has been taken on the same.

The plea, moved by advocates Anshul Bajaj and Sonali Tiwary, submitted that the outbreak of coronavirus, which had led to a nationwide lockdown, has given rise to many mental health issues.

The plea said that a sense of confinement that has settled in people’s minds, more particularly among students, is giving rise to a series of mental health issues.

It also said that anxiety, frustration, panic attacks, loss or sudden increase of appetite, insomnia, depression, mood swings, delusions, fear, and suicidal tendencies, have become quite common during the lockdown.

After much delay, the Himachal Pradesh Board declared Class 12 result 2020. The board has released the results of HP Board Class 12 result 2020 on the official website – hpbose.org.

Students are required to visit the official website and enter their exam roll number and other details as required to check their HP Board 12th result 2020.

The HP Board 12th result 2020 are based on the new marking formula. As several subjects in the HPBOSE Class 12 exam 2020 had to be cancelled owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, the HP Board Class 12 result 2020 is announced for 4 key subjects instead of 5.

The theory marks for the 5th subject in HPBOSE 12th result 2020 will be assigned in proportion with the marks in the other four subjects, the exams for which were held between 6th and 24th March 2020. The internal and practical marks for this subject will be based on the marks awarded in school.

Airtel enters Ed-tech, acquires 10 pc stakes in Lattu Kids

New Delhi: As a part of startup accelerator programme, Bharti Airtel has acquired 10% stake in Ed-tech startup Lattu Media Pvt Ltd.

Mumbai based Lattu Kids specializes in digital learning tools for children. The app focuses on improving English vocabulary, English reading and Maths skills for children under the age of 10 years through entertaining, fun learning animated videos and games.

The investment will enable Airtel to add Ed-tech to its premium digital content portfolio and give distribution scale to quality learning material from Lattu Kids.

Airtel said it already has over 160 mn monthly active users across its digital platforms – Airtel Thanks app, Airtel Xstream app and Wynk Music.

Adarsh Nair, Chief Product Officer, Bharti Airtel said: “Online education is a critical need for millions of young children who do not have access to regular classrooms. CBSE Exams 2020: Manish Sisodia urges HRD Minister to cancel pending exams

Keeping the rising Coronavirus outbreak in the national capital, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has written to Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal urging him to cancel the remaining CBSE 2020 Board exams. The Deputy Chief Minister has laid out a series of reasons in his letter detailing why it is not feasible to conduct the pending CBSE 2020 Board exams which were scheduled for July.

The rising number of COVID-19 cases in the national capital and the unavailability of schools is one of the main reasons.

As Delhi is already witnessing a massive spike in the number of cases, the anxiety and safety of the children cannot be ignored. The total number of cases at the time when the letter was written was 44,688 which is expected to peak at about 5.5 lakhs in July end.

Also, highlighting the unavailability of schools to conduct the remaining CBSE 2020 Board exams, Deputy CM Sisodia stated that presently 343 school buildings are being utilised for various relief work for COVID-19. Of the total 343 buildings, 251 are serving as distribution centres, 39 are shelter homes, 33 are hunger relief centres, 10 serve as transit migrant camps while the remaining 10 are quarantine centre.

Pointing out that these schools are high risk zones which cannot be used for conducting the remaining CBSE Board exam 2020 and also added to it the fact that there are 242 containment zones in the capital already, there is absolutely no clarity as to how the pending CBSE Board exams can be conducted from 1st July 2020 onwards.

HC asks ICSE to present alternate grading plan

With Coronavirus spreading in Maharashtra, the Bombay High Court asked the Indian Certificate Secondary Education (ICSE) board to present its plan for alternative grading for students of Classes 10 and 12 who choose not to physically appear for pending exam papers.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice S S Shinde directed the ICSE board to present its plan for alternative grading latest by June 22. The bench was hearing public interest litigation filed by advocate Arvind Tiwari, a parent of a Class 10 student. Advocate Tiwari urged the court to direct all concerned authorities to not conduct the board exams.

On June 14, the board had informed the court that it will offer an option to all its students, in India and abroad, to either take the exam in July or to have their final results declared based on their performance in internal assessments and pre-board exams conducted by schools.

Advocate general Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, who appeared for the state government, told the court that the state was also opposed to conducting the pending exams, but it had decided to wait to check how many students choose to appear for them and then take a final call.

The ICSE board examinations were scheduled between February 27 and March 30 this year, but the schedule was interrupted when the nationwide coronavirus-induced lockdown came into force.

MCC releases allotment letter for Round 2 PG/MDS

Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released the allotment letter for the second round of counselling of NEET PG/MDS Exam 2020. Candidates can visit the official website to download their letters once they fill the choices in the registration form on mcc.nic.in.

Candidates who have been allotted seats in the second round would be required to be present with their documents to be verified in the respective colleges. The physical reporting dates have been extended to June 30 as per the latest notification released by NEET.

The notice reads, “In view of the Physical Reporting to be conducted for Round 2020 amid the unprecedented receiving lot of representations from Colleges as well as candidates regarding problems being faced in commuting to the allotted colleges. The MCC has taken a very sympathetic view in this regard and has issued following instructions for colleges and candidates”.

One of the major information from the notice is that the letter of allotment would be treated as an e-pass or Curfew pass for candidates with an attendant to be present in the allotted college at the time of reporting. This has been done in view of current restrictions imposed in the country related to interstate travelling.

The candidates who have been upgraded for Round 2 would be relieved from their previous colleges and can report to the newly allotted college of Round 2. They do not need to be physically present in the college allotted earlier.

UPPSC PCS 2019 Main exams to be held on 25th August

In the view of Coronavirus epidemic, UPPSC PCS 2019 Mains Revised Date has been announced by Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. According to the UPPSC Revised Calendar, this year, the commission will conduct the exam of UPPSC PCS 2019-20 Exam on 25 August 2020 instead of 25 July 2020.

All candidates are advised to keep visiting on the official website for latest updates.

The selection of the candidates will be done on the basis of their performance in Prelims, Mains and Interview. The candidate will be called for further exam on the basis of his performance in prelims or mains.

The UPPSC PCS Mains Exam is held offline in a descriptive format. The exam is held in a week duration; each paper is held in a different slot. The timing of the exam intimated by the UPPSC before the exam along with the admit card. This exam will have General Hindi, Essay Writing, General Studies 1, 2, 3 and 4 and two optional subjects. Each paper will be of 3 hours.

The commission conducts the UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam through an offline mode. Candidates will have to mark the answers in the OMR Sheet. This paper consists of two papers. i.e. General Studies 1 & General Studies 2. Both Papers will be of 200 Marks for 2 hours respectively. Candidates should note that there will be negative marking also for answering wrong answers.

Candidates are advised to practise previous year question paper, read newspapers daily and analyse the attempted question paper.

SC asks CBSE to consider cancelling pending class 10 and 12 exams

In the view of Coronavirus epidemic across the country, Supreme Court of India has directed CBSE Board to consider cancellation of pending board exams for 10th and 12th Class students. The apex court has asked the board to use internal assessment as marking scheme to promote students.

CBSE Board is expected to file its report before the top court by 23rd June 2020. The apex court passed the directions to CBSE Board while hearing a petition filed by a parent challenging the board’s decision to hold the pending exams amid the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, CBSE in consultation with HRD Ministry informed students and parents that the pending CBSE Board Exams 2020 will be held from 1st to 15th July 2020.

A 3-judge bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar has directed CBSE Board to file its reply in response to the petition filed by parents’ citing the safety of the students. The plea filed by parents asks CBSE to declare CBSE 10th and 12th Results 2020 on the basis of internal assessment and let students continue their academic activities, including seeking admission to higher education classes further.

Union HRD Minster Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank held a review meeting with CBSE Board as well as the National Testing Agency (NTA) which conducts several important national-level entrance exams. Now, following SC’s direction to CBSE Board, the ministry and board officials are likely to convene again this week to take a final decision about holding of the pending exams.

Kerala board declares two-month PG internship programme

In the wake of Coronavirus epidemic, Kerala State Planning Board has announced to provide two months postgraduate internship to the students. The internship will be for postgraduate programme or those who have completed the degree within one last year. The students who are pursuing M.Phil or PhD from a recognized university or institute in India can also apply for the internship programme.

The duration of the internship will be two months and the programme will start on July 21. The selected candidates will be attached with members or chiefs of the state planning board and will get to know details about the government schemes and programmes.

The internship will be provided in different 13 areas, Agriculture, Education, Environment and Climate Change, Urban Development, Welfare and SC, ST, Disaster Management, Industry and Infrastructure, Rural Development, Local Self Government, Social Justice and Development, Water Resources and Drinking Water, Health, Nutrition, Women and Child Development and Skill Development and Employment.

The last date for filling the internship application is June 25. Candidates can send the filled application to KSPB at internshipspb2020@gmail.com.

After successfully completing the internship and on approval of the report by the officials to whom it is attached, a certificate will be issued to the interns. The postgraduate students will receive an amount of Rs 24,000 and PhD or M.Phil students will receive Rs 30,000 as a stipend.
