The Indian Government has introduced an education development index (EDI), which ranks the states and Union territories on parameters related with elementary education. National University of Educational Planning & Administration (NUEPA) has conducted the study ranking. Southern states of the country are leading in providing elementary education. States like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Haryana and West Bengal are still facing the challenge of elementary education.
