East Sussex County Council in England is providing the Next Generation Network (NGN) to help schools meet national technology standards and provide the capacity for future developments in classroom e-Learning.
The NGN project also incorporates all main offices of the council. The project delivers fast connectivity by using a combination of fibre-based services and wireless antennas linking school buildings in the new network. The majority of primary and special schools will be connected using this technology. The technology being used meets or exceeds all UK, European and international health and safety standards. The solution is entirely different from mobile or other wireless technologies. It is purely narrow power beam point-to-point connection between roof-mounted antennas and doesn't provide blanket coverage such as in a mobile phone network.
