University and College Teachers Association of Goa (UCTAG) has been opposing the move of upgrading the Goa University to central status.

UCTAG has stated that the varsity is doing it's level best in rendering quality higher education in the state and therefore it should not be handed over to the central government 'only to save Rs 15 crore adding that the state government should think of strengthening and upgrading the existing varsity by giving special attention and support on priority.
