The nation celebrates National Education Day on November 11, every year which is also the birth anniversary of India’s first Education Minister of Independent India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
In an effort to honour Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on his contribution to education, The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) on September 11, 2018, announced that his birth anniversary will be celebrated as National Education Day, every year. Subsequently, from November 11, 2008 onwards, this day is annually celebrated as National Education Day.
On this day, the Ministry of Human Resource Development tweeted by saying,

Schools and colleges in India mark this day by organising seminars, symposia, competitions etc, related to varied aspects of education.
Maulana Sayyid Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin Ahmed bin Khairuddin Al-Hussaini Azad was an Indian scholar and independence activist. He was one of the most important national leaders of the Indian National Congress (INC) during independence.
