Bihar may soon have a branch of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in the state. After the Aligarh Muslim University, BHU has also expressed its desire to open a branch in Bihar to facilitate students of the state.
The Vice Chancellor of BHU, Lalji Singh is looking forward to the cooperation from the Bihar government to give approval for the land so that the process of setting up a branch in the state can speed up. The BHU branch was earlier proposed in the Motihari district of Bihar by BJP legislator Awinish Kumar Singh in 2012. The Chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar had said that the state government would take steps in this direction if BHU initiates the process. Now, Bihar education minister, P K Shahi has asked the BHU officials to send a proposal to the state government to open its branch in the state. He has promised all possible assistance from his end to set up the BHU branch in Bihar.
