AI School of India announced the launch of India’s first AI LAB with a global curriculum to provide students transformational Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Coding learning experiences.

AI World School is the technology provider to AI School of India for the AI LAB. The AI curriculum is specially curated by Engineers & Educators of AI School of India, trained and certified by ISTE, USA, Intel, IBM, and Professors from Oxford University UK and Graz University of Technology, Austria.

Designed around the “5 Big Ideas” – Perception, Comprehension, Learning, Natural Interaction and Impact of AI as proposed by the USA based AI4K12 task force led by Dr David Touretzky Carnegie Mellon University, these courses are also aligned to CBSE and ATL- NASSCOM framework. The AI4K12 initiative is a joint project of CSTA, AAAI, CMU and National Science Foundation (NSF) Govt of USA.

According to Suresh Gurunathan, VP at AI School of India, the National Education Policy – NEP 2020 and CBSE have all highlighted the importance of Coding and AI in order to enable students to be Future Ready. Leading Schools like Banyan, BVM Global and others across the country want to stay ahead of the curve in introducing AI concepts to students and have started working with us for AI LAB and Robotics. As a part of AI LAB, AI School of India will provide infrastructure, curriculum content, with access to the cloud and AI training to students using existing Computer Lab in schools.

L&T makes entry in online learning space with L&T Edutech

Larsen & Tourbo (L&T) has launched L&T Edu Tech to bridge the gap between industry expectations and competence of young engineers.

According to a news daily, L&T’s new venture will be an industry-led, application-based, practical oriented learning platform, strongly rooted in technology. This will help engineering and technology verticals to help and guide to make students industry-ready.

Schools in Odisha to reopen on October 21 For Classes 8-11

Schools in Odisha will reopen for physical classes for students of Classes 8 to 11 standards for October 21.

The schools were closed down due to the Covid 19 pandemic last year. The cases are declining in the state as a result the authorities have decided to reopen schools in the state. “The COVID situation has been improving in the state. We will resume classroom teaching for students of classes 8 and 11 from October 21. A notification will be issued soon,” School and Mass Education Minister S R Dash said.

Classes have already resumed for 9 and 12 standards in the state with strict adherence to healthy safety. Decisions to reopen schools from Class 1 to 7 are yet to be taken.

The cases in Odisha were 521 new COVID-19 cases recently taking the caseload to 10,33,809 and fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 8,274.

Goa Schools To Reopen for Classes 9 to 12 from October 18

Goa schools have been permitted to reopen for Classes 9 to 12 from October 18. The schools have to follow COVID 19 guidelines and standard operating procedures after attending schools.

In a circular issued by the government recently, the state government also has decided to reopen schools only after consulting with an expert committee. “Schools may, if required, initially follow a hybrid mode of teaching, that is, online as well as offline classes,” the circular stated. Masks, temperature checks and sanitisation are mandatory at the entry gates of institutions, and even the staff should be checked before entry, the circular added.

The department also has asked the management and heads of educational institutions to consider the infrastructure and conditions within schools.

Goa has recorded 68 cases, two casualties and total tally to 1,77,356 including 3,335 deaths. In fact, the coastal state has 679 active cases.

IBM to partner with states to expand ‘SkillBuild’ initiative in India

IBM has partnered with other state governments to expand its ‘SkillsBuild’ initiatives. This was informed by IBM India and South Asia head for Corporate Social Responsibility, Manoj Balachandran recently.

IBM is in talks with several states to expand its skills initiatives. The company has a plan to provide 30 million people with new skills that are required for the future jobs by 2030.

“Today, IBM commits to providing 30 million people with new skills by 2030. This will help democratize opportunity, fill the growing skills gap, and give new generations of workers the tools they need to build a better future for themselves and society,” IBM chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna said in a statement recently.

IBM will partner with more than 170 new academics and industry in order to achieve the goals. IBM has partnered with states such as Goa, Sikkim, AP, Telangana and now with Haryana.

“There are several other states where we are having talks for partnerships. Apart from SkillsBuild, we also have MoUs signed with 11 state governments for the STEM for Girls program where we are currently teaching over 300,000 students,” Balachandran said.

IBM also said it will partner with Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Electronics and IT, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (DST), CBSE , Skill Development Councils in Goa, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, NPTEL- IIT-Madras etc for implementing skills initiatives throughout the country.

For implementing skills development initiatives, IBM has also partnered with the Haryana State Board of Technical Education and Uttar Pradesh SCERT (State Council of Educational Research and Training).

Colleges in Maharashtra to reopen on Oct 20 for fully-vaccinated students

The colleges and universities in Maharashtra will start physical classes from October 20. The students need to be fully vaccinated in order to attend offline classes. This was informed by the Maharashtra Higher Education Minister Uday Samant recently.

The staff and non-staff should complete their vaccination before attending the schools.

“All the non-agricultural colleges, state-run universities, deemed universities, self-financed universities and colleges affiliated to them can start holding physical classes from October 20. The teaching as well as non-teaching staff should complete their vaccination on priority,” the minister said.

He added that the students who have taken both the doses can attend the classes. Others should get the vaccination on a priority basis.

Every university needs to have the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and must adhere to it strictly, Samant said.

Unacademy Graphy acquires edtech startup Spayee for $25 million

Unacademy Group-owned Graphy has recently acquired edtech platform Spayee for $25 million. The focus is to increase the reach of the company and optimise the product offerings, the company said in a statement.

After this acquisition, Spayee will operate independently. Sumit Jain, co-founder and chief executive/ officer, Graphy, said, “The creator economy is booming and at Graphy, we are constantly on the lookout for avenues that will help creators grow and achieve their full potential. We share a common ethos with Spayee, recognising the need for an affordable, secured and scalable medium for content creators to build an online education business. And Spayee has built a winning proposition for creators.”

Spayee allows content creators to produce courses in the form of audio and video tutorials, portable document format (PDF) documents, quizzes, live classes, and assignments. Creators can build their own website and mobile apps on Android and iOS. Over 2,000 creators have created and launched platforms using the Spayee.

“We are confident that having them as part of the Unacademy Group will help us explore common synergies and build the world’s largest creator community,” added Jain.

Over 500 active creators are using the Spayee platforms. In fact, Graphy also launched programs like the Creator Grant and Graphy Select Accelerator to monetise their skills.

Earlier, Unacademy raised $440 million from General Atlantic, Tiger Global, and Softbank Vision Fund.

Schools and College Students will have counselling session: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan

The Kerala Government will conduct counselling sessions for students in schools. The reason for conducting counselling sessions is for the students who are facing learning loss, mental health disturbances due to losing friends and families.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has taken a decision on Wednesday to conduct the counselling sessions for school and college students who may be in a particular state of mind and focus on their emotional well-being .

According to an official release, the schools and colleges need to have counselling sessions for students. In fact, in a review meeting recently, it was decided that the students below 18 years in undergraduate programmes will be exempted to get vaccinated due to their age.

Also, the students who do not have time for taking the second dose will be allowed to attend classes, the chief minister said in its meeting.

He added that awareness programmes need to be conducted for teachers and students. All schools need to follow covid protocols such as wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing.

Delhi University Receives 43,412 Applications Under its 2nd Cut-Off List on Day 2 of admission

Delhi University Receives 43,412 Applications

The University of Delhi received 43,412 applications under its second cut-off list by the second day of its admission to undergraduate programmes.

Delhi University admission process under the second cut-off lists will end today. A total of 10,593 applications have been approved and around 3,213 students have completed the payments.

Candidates who meet the scores for admission to undergraduate programmes can login to the students’ dashboard to select course and college. Approved candidates need to pay the admission fee within the designated period.

Students can change their preferences in selecting courses as they are allowed to select multiple programmes and colleges.

Around 70,000 seats are there for the academic year 2021-22 in the Delhi University. During the 1st cut-off list, 36,130 students got admission in various courses in DU. The University of Delhi received 60,904 applications in its first round of admission process.

The second cut-off list was released on October 9. The Delhi University will release three more cut-off lists and special cut-off lists upon availability of seats in DU colleges.

IGNOU extends admission date for online UG and PG programmes

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date for admissions to Online undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the July 2021 session.

Candidates can register to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes till October 25. The students can apply online at the official website ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

IGNOU also offers courses in various undergraduate, postgraduate, postgraduate diploma and diploma, postgraduate certificate and certificate programmes and appreciation/ awareness programmes.
