After states announce 10th and 12th exam delay, all eyes on CBSE

There is a dilemma witnessed across the country over the CBSE dates. The announcement of CBSE 2021 Board exam dates are highly anticipated by students and other stakeholders across the country. Various state boards such as Maharashtra and Gujarat postponing the Class 10 and 12 Board exams 2021 to May. The boards are also expecting CBSE to take a decision on similar lines.

Maharashtra state Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad recently confirmed that conducting Maharashtra Class 10 and 12 Board exams prior to May 2021 is not possible. The Gujarat State Government also announced that the GSEB Class 10th and 12th Board exams 2021 will be conducted in May next year. The Andhra Pradesh State Government has also hinted on a delay in the conducting of Board Intermediate Exams in April instead of February.

The CBSE along with CISCE had said both the two National Boards are contemplating on whether to Postpone Class 10 and 12 Board exams 2021 or reduce syllabus or employ a combination of both. The CBSE usually announces the date sheet for the Class 10 and 12 Board exams in the month of December.

With the postponement of Class 10 and 12 Board exams by several State Boards, CBSE’s decision is highly anticipated. There has been no update on CBSE 2021 date sheet as of now and is expected to come from the Ministry of Education directly.

Stanford University lists world’s top 2% scientists, 36 from 2 IITs

According to US- based Standford University, at least 14 scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Banaras Hindu University have figured among the top 2% scientists in a global list.

The list also includes 22 faculty members or researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati.

The prestigious University has recently released a list that represents the top 2% of the most-cited scientists in various disciplines. The exhaustive list has 1,59,683 persons with nearly 1,500 scientists, doctors, and engineers in India.

“The list includes the name of 14 professors of Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University). All these have been selected on the basis of their research paper’s international evaluation,” IIT BHU Director Pramod Kumar Jain said.

The fourteen faculty members from IIT-BHU include – Rajiv Prakash, Dean (Research and Development); Pralaya Maiti and Dhananjay Pandey from the School of Material Science and Technology; Yogesh Chandra Sharma and PC Pandey from the Chemistry Department; Brahmeshwar Mishra, Sanjay Singh, SK Singh and MS Muthu from Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology; Devendra Kumar from Ceramic Engineering; Subir Das from Mathematical Sciences; Rakesh Kumar Singh from Physics; Zahra Sarkar from Mechanical Department and Om Prakash.

Led by Professor TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, the IIT Guwahati faculty members have been ranked for their research publications citations for 2019 and their lifetime contribution to their fields of research.

Punjab colleges and Universities to open from Nov 16

The universities and institutions in Punjab are allowed to open from November 16 onwards only after testing staff for Covid-19. Initially, at the universities, only departments with hands on training like Departments of Sciences or Medicine will be opened. This will be followed by the departments where the hands on training can be delayed like Departments of managements, commerce etc.

After the assessment of the situation, the departments of arts and languages will follow suit. The universities at their own level will set the order of precedence for opening of institutions. Making decision on final academic schedule will be the responsibility of the concerned universities keeping in view their specific requirements.

Education institutions will have to prepare details of opening the campus in a phased manner with a complete roster for all departments and batches of students in different programmes. The colleges will adopt hybrid teaching ensuring full and systematic coverage of syllabus with liberty to extend teaching hours and a fair rotation of teachers in such a number of batches that seamless study and teaching work goes on regular basis.

In the first phase, students of final year only can be called for physical classes with not more than 50 per cent of the students on any given day wearing mask without exception. For other classes, online mode is advised. The institutions with less strength and enough space for mandatory social distancing may allow more than 50 per cent or more students. Students and college staff members will download and update COVA and Arogya Setu application.

PM Modi inaugurates two Ayurveda institutions

To boost the Ayurveda education, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi dedicated two future-ready Ayurveda institutions to the nation on the 5th Ayurveda Day. These are the Institute of Teaching & Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar and the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur. Both the Institutes are premier institutions of Ayurveda in the country.

The former has been conferred the status of an Institution of National Importance (INI) by an Act of the Parliament, and the latter is an Institution Deemed to be University by the University Grants Commission.

Modi stressed the need to bring the ayurveda knowledge out of books, scriptures and home remedies and develop this ancient knowledge as per modern needs. he remarked that new research is being done in the country by combining the information received from the modern science of the 21st century with our ancient medical knowledge. Three years ago, the All India Ayurvedic Institute was established here. Ayurveda is not just an alternative today but is one of the key basis of the country’s health policy, The Prime Minister said.

Modi informed that work is on to develop the National Sowa-Rigpa Institute for research and other studies related to Sowa-Rigpa in Leh. Today, the two institutions in Gujarat and Rajasthan which have been upgraded are also an extension of this development.

Railway launches 7 academic programmes for students

National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), Vadodra, launched seven academic programmes aimed at creating ‘best skills sets’ in railway infrastructure management, systems and communication engineering and transportation cum supply chain management.

Among the launched programmes, there are two B Tech undergraduate programmes, two MBA, and three MSc programmes in the core applied sector.

“The two B Tech programs are focused on rail infrastructure, rail systems and communications engineering, while the MBA programs are focused at transportation and supply chain management which are of highest priority in the coming years, the MSc programmes are focused on the systems engineering and integration, systems and analytics, policy and economics which are the core areas the nation is looking forward to,” the release said.

The Railways informed that the MSc programme on systems engineering and integration is offered in association with the University of Birmingham, UK.

“The international exposure to the students will be unparalleled,” Railway said.

Speaking at the launch of the academic courses, VK Yadav, Chairman and CEO, Railway Board said that NRTI has adopted an interdisciplinary approach for research of transport systems, and it is bringing together academicians, scientists, and engineers from various backgrounds, with plans to leverage its academic and industry partnerships and collaborations.

“NRTI intends to develop a set of core values–dedication to nation-building, commitment to innovation and academic excellence, compassion towards people and society, and responsibility towards the environment. It offers project-based learning at Railway establishments,” said Yadav.

Unveiling a statue of Swami Vivekananda on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in the national capital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that one should be proud of one’s ideology but should not let it eclipse the national interest.

“The students’ hunger for ideas, debates and discussion, which used to be satisfied in Sabarmati Dhaba, has now found a new place under the statue of Swami Vivekananda. But it is wrong to think only on the basis of one’s ideology, which eclipses national interest. Everyone takes pride in their ideology today, which is natural. But we should follow our ideology in the line of the national interest and not against it. This statue should teach immense commitment and intense love towards our nation,” PM Modi wished, adding if there is one thing which has “hurt the democratic set-up of our country the most; it is giving priority to ideology over national interest.”

He went on to say if need arises, adherents of different ideologies should unite for the country, giving examples of the Indian freedom struggle and the Emergency.

“When one sees the country’s history, it will be observed that in national interest, adherents of different ideologies have come together. In the struggle for India’ independence, adherents of different ideologies came together under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.”

PM Modi advised the youth to strengthen the Indian tradition where diverse intellectual thoughts prosper.

“Idea sharing and the flow of new thoughts should be enabled in the country. Our country is a vibrant democracy only because of this tradition,” he said.

ICSI CSEET November exam admit card released

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has released the hall ticket for the Executive Entrance Test (CSEET). The candidates who will appear in the exam can download the hall ticket through the official website- icsi.edu. The CSEET exam will be held on November 21.

Due to COVID-19, CSEET will be held through remote proctored mode, instead of conducting from test centres. “Candidates are allowed to appear for the test through laptop/ desktop from home/ such other convenient place. Candidates shall not be allowed to appear through smartphone/ tablet etc,” the notification mentioned.

According to the new paper pattern, the computer-based MCQ portion of the online test forming part of the CSEET will remain the same as per the existing structure of the CSEET, but the viva voice portion will not be applicable for the first CSEET and accordingly, paper 4 will carry a total of 50 marks, which will contain questions on current affairs, presentation and communication skills, as per ICSI.

The result of first CSEET exam was earlier released in September, and a total of 77.24 per cent candidates qualified successfully. To pass the exam, the candidates need to score 50 per cent in aggregate, and 40 per cent in each of the papers. There is no negative marking.

Puducherry starts free breakfast scheme for school students

The Congress-ruled Puducherry on Thursday rolled out a free breakfast scheme for school students. The state govt named after the late DMK President M Karunanidhi, saying it was a “fitting tribute” to his efforts to ensure States’ rights.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, often at loggerheads with Lt Governor Kiran Bedi over a number of issues, said the Constitution would never allow the Centre to intervene in the administration of opposition-ruled States through those appointed to the gubernatorial post. Karunanidhi, a former Chief Minister of neighbouring Tamil Nadu, was keenly interested in development of Puducherry and more particularly the downtrodden and marginalised sections, Narayansamy said. “He had been a champion of the concept of coalition rule at the Centre and autonomous rule at the state level,” the chief minister, who presided over the event, said. Senior DMK leader and Rajya Sabha member from Tamil Nadu, RS Bharathi, formally inaugurated the “Dr Kalaignar Mu Karunanidhi Kaalai Sitrundi Thittam” (Dr Kalaignar M Karunanidhi breakfast scheme) that will benefit about 80,000 students in 419 government and aided institutions.

To start with, the scheme would cover about 106 schools since not all of them are open owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Only students from classes XI-XII are allowed to visit the institutions and that too for clarification and guidance. Narayansamy said Karunanidhi had even questioned the relevance of Governors for states, adding the territorial government named the free breakfast scheme after the late DMK veteran as a “fitting tribute” to his sustained support for the rights of the States.

UP govt plans to generate over 50 lakh jobs by March

The Uttar Pradesh government set a target of generating over 50 lakh jobs in the public and private sectors by March next year.

Through the “Mission Rojgar”, over 50 lakh youth will get a chance to apply for jobs in government departments as well as the private sector by March 2021, an official spokesperson said.

A help desk will be created in every department, which will inform the youth about employment programmes at government departments, he said.

“A database of employment will be prepared in the state. In this regard, an app and a web portal is also being developed by the Directorate of Training and Employment. Data related to employment will be updated every fortnight on the portal,” he said.

The entire campaign will be conducted through the infrastructure and industrial development commissioner (IIDC) while a high-level committee headed by the chief secretary will monitor it. In every district, a committee will be set up under the chairmanship of the DM who will prepare an action plan at the district-level for jobs, he said. The directorate of training and employment in collaboration with the private sector will organise employment fairs, he added.
