
Professor M.P. Gupta officially took charge as the new Director of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow, succeeding Professor Archana Shukla. An accomplished academician and administrator, Prof. Gupta brings with him decades of experience in management education and institutional development.
Prior to joining IIM Lucknow, Prof. Gupta served as the Modi Foundation Chair Professor at the Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi. His academic journey began with a B.Tech from HBTU Kanpur, followed by an M.Tech and Ph.D. from IIT Delhi. He started his teaching career at IIT Roorkee before moving to IIT Delhi in 1997, where he rose to the rank of full professor in 2008. He also held key leadership roles including Head of Department (2016–2019) and Dean of Planning.
A visionary in digital governance and public policy, Prof. Gupta has significantly influenced national initiatives such as Digital India and Smart Cities through his research and advisory roles. With over 260 publications, guidance of 38 doctoral scholars, and several authored books and volumes, his academic contributions are both vast and impactful.
In 2020, he played a pivotal role in establishing the School of Management & Entrepreneurship at IIT Jodhpur, further exemplifying his commitment to nurturing innovation in management education. His expertise has also been instrumental in shaping ICT policy, having served on multiple government panels and national award juries. Notably, he led an EU-funded initiative that introduced the FIWARE platform in India, which is now being implemented in World Bank-backed smart city projects.

Recognized with honors like the Shastri Indo-Canadian Fellowship and the Best Professor Award at the World Education Congress, Prof. Gupta is expected to bring transformative energy to IIM Lucknow.
