The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) research scholars won SRISTI- Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Award 2021 and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) SITARE-GYTI Appreciation Award 2021 respectively.

Harini Gunda and Dr Chandan Kumar Jha have got accolades for their work.

Harini Gunda is a Phd student (Chemical Engineering) at IIT Gandhinagar and Dr Chandan Kumar Jha is a PHD completed student who is currently postdoctoral fellow in electrical engineering.

On receiving the award, Harini Gunda said, “It is a great honour and privilege for me to receive the prestigious SRISTI-GYTI Award 2021. I am thankful to IITGN for providing the world-class research environment and especially thankful to my advisor for giving me the freedom and support to explore out of the box. Developing energy-efficient fuels for both defence and space applications is the need of the hour to meet our nation’s targets and be among the top space-faring nations.”

Dr Chandan Kumar Jha said, “I feel humbled and honoured to receive this award for my work. I would like to thank the BIRAC SITARE-GYTI Award committee, my mentors and my team at IITGN for extending all the support and guidance throughout the development of this system. With our innovation, we wish to bring a change in the lives of stroke patients.”

Gunda received the award for developing ‘Novel Boron Nano-additives for Improving the Performance of Solid Propellants’ and Dr Chandan has received the award for developing ‘An Intelligent Hand Rehabilitation and Assessment System for Stroke Patients’.

IIT Delhi Plans to fully start physical classes from January 2022: Director V Ramgopal Rao

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to fully start physical classes from January onwards. The institution will follow all COVID-19-realted precautions.

“By November, we will have the first-year students attending in-person classes, and by January 2022, we are expecting to go back to the normal mode of teaching, of course following all the precautions,” IIT Delhi Director V Rampgopal Rao said at a press conference recently.

Speaking in this context, Shantanu Roy, Dean Academics, IIT Delhi, said “Over a period of time, if things remain well, we expect the DDMA (Delhi Disaster Management Authority) order to offer further relaxations.”

“We will then start moving to actual classrooms. Not all courses will go offline immediately. Core courses in different disciplines will go offline first and the elective courses will be continued online,” he said.

The decision to conduct examination offline will be taken in due course of time. However, the classes will be conducted with 50 percent strength. “The modalities of the mapping of classrooms, number of students in a course, and the courses that will be prioritised will be done as per an elaborate plan that we have worked out. However, classes will begin online to begin with,” he added.

Padma Awards: Harekala Hajabba, a fruit seller receives award for building school in village Newpadapu, Karnataka

Harekala Hajabba, a 68-year-old fruit seller has grabbed the attention recently. He received the Padma Shri award from President Ram Nath Kovind for building up a primary school with his earnings.

The dream to start a school in his native village came to his mind when he was selling oranges in his locality. It was then that a passer-by who was a foreign tourist asked him the price of an orange in English. He felt embarrassed as he could not understand the English language and hence, he could not reply to tourists.

“That day I vowed to make a school,” he said. He himself was not privileged to go to school and learn.

The village Newpadapu did not have a school and the village children were deprived of their right to education. To solve the issue, Hajabba invested all his life savings in providing schooling to the village children. His school is now established in one acre of land.

When he started the school, he had only 28 children. “Today, the school has 175 students with classes up to the 10th standard,” Harekala Hajabba told a news agency.

Currently, the school is upgraded to high school and is providing education as well as fulfilling the needs of the students.

Haryana focuses to provide quality education: Governor Dattatreya

The Governor of Haryana Bandaru Dattatreya said recently that Haryana has emerged as a hub of quality of education, health, sports and infrastructure facilities.

While presenting the state’s report at a conference held on Thursday under the chairmanship of President Ram Nath Kovind, he said, Haryana is promoting programmes like Fit India, Digital India, Skill India and self-reliant India.

More than 80,000 youth have been trained in Haryana under the Skill Development Mission.

The Super 100 programme has been able to coach for JEE and NEET exams, he said. In fact, the state has also decided to fully implement the National Education Policy by 2025.

All these initiatives are helping to strengthen the education system in the state.

HSNC University launches D. M. Harish School of Law

HSNC University, Mumbai unveils the D. M. Harish School of Law (DMHSL) for aspiring legal professionals. The law school is approved by the Bar Council of India and will offer five-year B.A. LL.B., five-year B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and three-year LL.B. courses to begin with.

DMHSL will conduct its own entrance test HLAT (HSNCU Law Aptitude Test) for candidates who wish to enroll for courses at the school. Besides, to ascertain the merit of students who may not appear for HLAT, DMHSL will also consider the marks of other entrance examinations like CLAT, MHCET, SLAT, LSAT, AILET, NMIMS. For students who have appeared for other Law Entrance exams in 2021, DMHSL gives an exemption from appearing for HLAT.

Elated to share the developments and advancements at DMHSL, Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Provost – HSNC University, said, “The new age law school will be a benchmark with regards to pedagogies that will hone the aspiring legal minds into world best attorneys. Further explaining the diversity and academic trails at DMHSL, Dr. Hemlata Bagla, Vice-Chancellor of HSNC University, stated, “At D. M. Govt. to conduct National Achievement Survey (NAS) on November 12 across the country

The government has been implementing a rolling programme of sample based National Achievement Survey (NAS) aimed at classes 3, 5, 8 and 10 with a cycle period of three years. The last National Achievement Survey (NAS) was held on 13 November, 2017 for assessing the competencies developed by the children at the grade levels 3, 5 and 8.

The next round of NAS will be held on 12 November 2021 across the country, which will help to assess the learning interruptions and new learnings during the COVID pandemic and help to take remedial measures. The instrument development, testing, finalization of the test items, sampling of the schools etc. has been done by NCERT. However, the actual administration of the test in the sampled schools will be done by CBSE in collaboration with the respective states/UTs.

NAS 2021 will cover the entire spectrum of schools i.e. Government Schools (Central Government and State Government), Government Aided Schools and Private schools across the country.

It is expected that nearly 1.23 lakh schools and 38 lakh students in 733 districts across 36 States and UTs will be covered in the NAS 2021. NAS will be conducted in Language, Mathematics & EVS for class 3 & 5; Language, Mathematics, Science & Social Science for class 8 and Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and English for class 10.

The test would be conducted in 22 mediums of instruction covering Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Mizo, Odiya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Garo, Khasi, Konkani, Nepali, Bhutia, and Lepcha.

For smooth and fair conduct of the survey, 1,82,488 Field Investigators, 1,23,729 Observers, 733 District Level Coordinators and District Nodal Officers separately and 36 State Nodal Officers in each State and UT, have been appointed. Also, 1500 Board Representatives have been appointed in the districts for monitoring overall functioning and ensuring fair conduct of the Survey. All the personnel have been provided extensive training regarding their roles and responsibilities.

A National Steering Committee has been constituted for conduct of NAS headed by Chairman, CBSE.

Odisha Govt. to reopen schools for Classes 6,7 from November 15

Odisha government announces to reopen schools for Classes 6 and 7 from November 15. This was said by the School and Mass Education Department.

Students will attend classes in both online and offline mode.”State Govt have been pleased to allow reopening of schools in respect of Class VI & VII students for the academic year 2021-21 wef 15th Nov 2021,” the Information & Public Relations Department tweeted.

The schools in Odisha should follow appropriate Covid protocols. The classroom teachings were suspended in March 2020 due to coronavirus pandemic.

First year postgraduate students will resume physical classes from November 15. Academic session for first-year undergraduate students for 2021-22.

In fact, physical classes have already started for students in Class 10 and 12 from October 21 and Class 8 from October 25.

 

496 students from Delhi Government School cleared NEET UG

A total of 496 students have qualified the medical entrance exam (NEET UG) from Delhi government schools. Out of this 51 students are from one particular school.

“Wow! Sooo many students from Delhi govt schools have qualified NEET. Unimaginable till a few years back. I congratulate students, their parents and teachers. Together, you have shown that “It is possible”,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

Kushal Garg secured 700 marks out of 720, he bagged 165th rank and grabbed a seat at AIIMS.

“History created by a Delhi govt school student Kushal Garg. He has secured 700 marks out of 720. All India Rank 165, secured seat at AIIMS. Father 10th pass, carpenter. Mother 12th pass , Housewife Congratulations Kushal. Proud of you,” he tweeted.

According to the sources, 51 students are from Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar who have qualified the examinations. In fact, 28 students are successful from a government school located in Paschim Vihar. 16 students are from IP extension school, 15 each from Loni Road and 14 from Delhi government school located in Rohini have cleared NEET.

A total of 569 students from Delhi government schools had cleared the entrance examination last year. Over 15.44 lakh students appeared in the examination this year. The exams were conducted in 3,858 centres in 13 languages. Around 8.70 lakh candidates cleared the exam.

The NEET UG was held on September 12, 2021. The students qualifying the entrance exam will get admission to to bachelor courses in medicine and surgery (MBBS), dental surgery (BDS), ayurveda, unani and homeopathic among others in premier medical colleges like AIIMS and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry.

 

 

India celebrates National Education Day Today

India is observing National Education Day today. On November 11, it is marked as education day as it is the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

He was the first education minister in India and a pioneer of the education system. He was born on November 11, 1888 and died on February 22, 1958.

He has brought potential reforms in the education system and contributed towards nation building. Azad served India as education minister from 1947-1958.

On 11 September 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) announced that November 11 will be celebrated as National Education Day to commemorate the birthday and remembering the contribution of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in the field of education. Since then, National Education Day is celebrated without declaring it a holiday.

IIT Roorkee and WileyNXT launched Postgraduate Certification in AI for BFSI; admission open

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Roorkee) and WileyNXT have jointly launched the third cohort of Post-Graduate Certification in AI for BFSI.

The course aims to provide in-demand deep learning skills, machine learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence, and other tools.

IIT Roorkee has also invited applications from students who want to enroll in the program. There will be no entrance examination or being eligible for taking admission to the course. However, pre-assessment exams will be conducted by IIT Roorkee.

To encourage women, IIT Roorkee and WileyNXT will also offer ‘Tech it Like Her’ scholarship to students who have scored highest in the pre-assessment examination.

The programme has been designed for graduates such as BE, BTech, MTech, BCA, MCA, and tech professionals. The classes will be conducted by the faculty of IIT Roorkee and Wiley.

After completing the course, the students can get job opportunities in data analyst, data scientists, AI Engineer, Product Manager ML, Research Engineer and so on.

Dr Durga Toshniwal, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT-Roorkee said, “AI is building the future of work and has started dominating the banking and finance industry as well. With the level of growth and developments being seen in this sector, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee is working towards producing skilled talent, inept in dealing with evolving and complex business problems.”
