Delhi HC asks state govt to consider nursery admissions representation

Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court on Monday urged the State government to consider representing a lawyer, according to which the admission of children to kindergarten will be postponed until the next academic session of 2021-2022 in light of the COVID-pandemic 19 that prevails.

Judge Prateek Jalan recorded a statement from the Delhi government attorney that the information or opinions of the petitioner would be taken into account in representing him when formulating guidelines or making decisions regarding admission to kindergarten.

The High Court, which said it had not issued an opinion on the grounds for the guilty plea, dismissed the petition after the petitioner and lawyer Rajat Vats said they were satisfied with the order.

With this appeal, the Delhi government was asked for an instruction to issue guidelines or a decision to postpone admission to kindergarten for the 2021-2022 academic session on protecting 3- to 4-year-old children from the pandemic.

Vats said he made a representation to authorities on December 12, 2020, but has yet to receive a response. He then turned to the court.

During the hearing, Delhi government permanent attorney Ramesh Singh announced that the government has not yet released the kindergarten guidelines or entry-level guidelines for the upcoming academic term.

He also claimed that the request was premature as there could be no kindergarten admissions until the guidelines were published.

The petitioner informed the court that some private schools had already started the kindergarten admission process without guidelines.
