HRD all for CBSE common entrance in 2011

It was decided by the Human Resource Development ministry, recently, that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) should be allowed to hold the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) and the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT). Kapil Sibal has although maintained that HRD Ministry will try and convince Health Ministry for a common entrance in 2012. He also mentioned running out of time because of opposition for the same by the latter.

Earlier, Sibal has announced common entrance exam for engineering and medicine from 2011. It was aimed to reduce students' workload besides cutting down on the cost of holding multiple entrance examinations. The common entrance was meant for class XIIth passouts. It has also been planned by the HRD minister to allow students to sit for both AIEEE and AIPMT to appear for physics and chemistry papers just once, along with maths and biology, instead of appearing for physics and chemistry independently. However, the health ministry has opposed the plan and even opposed the move in the Supreme Court.
