Maharashtra partners with Google to train over 4 Lakh teachers

Google for education

The Maharashtra School Education Department has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Google for Education to provide artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology training to more than 4 lakh teachers across the state over the next 18 months. The initiative aims to equip educators with future-ready digital skills and promote AI-enabled learning in classrooms.

The programme, signed in the presence of School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse, will follow a master-trainer model, where selected trainers will first receive specialised instruction and subsequently train teachers across Maharashtra. The initiative is expected to reach every school in the state.

The training will focus on AI literacy, responsible use of AI tools, digital pedagogy, and professional development. Educational content will be localised in Marathi, Hindi, and English to ensure accessibility for teachers across different regions.

The programme will be implemented free of cost by Google, with no financial burden on the state government. Maharashtra will retain full control over implementation while ensuring digital safety and data security for educators.

The partnership aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and reflects Maharashtra’s push to integrate AI and digital technologies into school education at scale.
