Bihar govt launches ‘Praveshotsav’ campaign to bring back students to school

Bihar government

The Bihar government has launched Praveshotsav, a national campaign to get students back to school in the state. The campaign launched today in March and is scheduled to end on March 20. The state government will contact students and parents and ask them to return to school.

The campaign launched today will include prabhat pheri, rallies and door-to-door marches to connect with young people.

The decision to launch this campaign was made due to declining enrollment in public schools in 2020-2021 due to a pandemic. The State Education Minister, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, during the elections to the State Assembly, confirmed the news. However, he noted that only 1.11 lakh of children dropped out of school in 2020-2021, compared to 3.80 lakh in 2014-2015.

The “Praveshotsav” campaign will involve some 80,000 schools. This action is carried out in cooperation with the Department of Rural Development and the Department of Social Protection and aims to ensure that no child is deprived of education. The district judge will lead the campaign in each district. As part of this special enrollment drive, 100 percent of children who have turned 6 years old enter first grade. In addition, special attention is paid to enrollment in 6th, 8th and 9th grade.

Kejriwal: Delhi will have its own school education board

kejriwal ji

Like other states, Delhi will have its own school board, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced. The state government approved the formation of the Delhi School Education Council at a cabinet meeting.

The capital has 1,000 public schools and 1,700 private schools. All public schools and most private schools are affiliated with the CBSE, the chief minister said. Between 20 and 25 public schools will serve on the state’s new education committee over the next school year, and their affiliations with CBSE will be eliminated, he said. The schools that will report to the state council will be determined after discussion with school principals, teachers, and parents.

“The emphasis will not be on memorization. It will be on understanding (of concepts) and personal development,” he said, adding that students will be assessed throughout the year and that the system’s education will be based on international standards.

Unlike other states, Delhi does not have its own state education board. There are about 1,500,000 government school students in Delhi.

The CM said that initially, 20-25 Delhi government schools will become part of the Delhi Board of School Education in the upcoming academic session (2021-22).
