The University of Delhi has appointed Professor Pooran Chand Joshi as acting Vice Chancellor on March 10, 2021. Professor PC Joshi was hired as Interim Vice Chancellor as the term of Professor Yogesh Kumar Tyagi ended on March 9, 2021 – The Chancellor is appointed under the Delhi University Act of 1922.
Outgoing VC professor Yogesh Kumar Tyagi has been suspended from his duties due to misconduct in official records and his absence. Professor Tyagi has been found guilty of vacating the chairs for years despite repeated warnings. He was suspended by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind in October last year. The University of Delhi Teachers Association has spoken out against the second term of VC Jagadesh Kumar. According to JNUTA, Jagadesh Kumar had made arbitrary decisions that weakened the university.
Professor PC Joshi is appointed Provisional Vice Chancellor of the UA, and Professor Tyagi’s term ends on March 9, 2021. The search process for a new Vice Chancellor began before the end of the term. Since the venture capital office of the University of Delhi has received many applications, it seems desirable to appoint an interim venture capital.
The Provisional Designated Vice Chancellor, Professor PC Joshi, was Professor of Social Anthropology at the Institute of Anthropology, University of Delhi. He will serve as VC until a new permanent appointment is made to the position.
The new rector of the University of Delhi is expected to be appointed soon by a committee of the Union Ministry of Education. Professor PC Joshi will initially assume the position of Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi.
