PM Modi to inaugurate 11 new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating 11 new government medical colleges across Tamil Nadu and the new campus of Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai virtually on Wednesday. This was stated in an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office.

The new medical colleges are being established with an estimate of about Rs 4,000 crore, which will be partially funded by the Union and the state government. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate these new government medical colleges and the new campus of Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai.

The districts where these new medical colleges are being established are Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Thiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri. The new medical colleges, with a cumulative capacity of 1,450 seats, are being established under the centrally-sponsored scheme of ‘Establishing of New Medical Colleges attached with existing district/referral hospital’. Under the scheme, medical colleges are established in districts, which do not have either a government or private medical college, the statement said.

The establishment of a new campus of Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Chennai is in line with the prime minister’s vision to protect and preserve Indian heritage and promote classical languages, the PMO said. The new campus is fully funded by the Union government and is built at a cost of Rs 24 crore, it said.

Examinations of medical students conducted by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences postponed

Considering the outbreak of Omicron virus, the examinations of medical students conducted by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) have been postponed and the examinations of postgraduate students will now be held from 14th February 2022. These exams were to start from January 17, 2022. The examinations of all the faculties of the graduate courses will be held from 28th February, 2022, Which were earlier scheduled from January 31, 2022.

The decision has been taken keeping in view the need for medical services of medical teachers and students of affiliated colleges of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in case of high prevalence of Omicron virus in the state.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Amit Vilasrao Deshmukh. The meeting was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar, Secretary Department of Medical Education,Saurabh Vijay, Commissioner of Medical Education,Virendra Singh, Director Dr. Dilip Mhaisekar, Joint Director Dr. Ajay Chandanwale, Registrar,Dr. Kalidas Chavan, Controller of Examinations Ajit Pathak and concerned officers.

Dr. N.T. Rao takes over as Vice Chancellor, Chandigarh University

Dr. NT Rao, Former Professor of NIT Kurukshetra has been recently appointed as Vice Chancellor of Chandigarh University. He takes over this responsibility after his stint at MIT World Peace University Pune.

Apart from his earlier stint as the Vice Chancellor, MIT World Peace University, Pune, Dr Rao has also been the Treasurer, ASCE North Zone India Section (2012-14). He has been the Member, Board of Studies, Transportation Engineering, NIT, Trichy (2014-16) and also a Traffic Enforcement Expert for Gazipur-Dhaka TOD Project in Bangladesh funded by the Asian Development Bank (2016-2017).

Prof Amit Prashant took charge as the officiating director of Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhi Nagar.

Prof Prashant is a professor of Civil Engineering at IITGN. He has been teaching in the institute since November 2010. Before this, he has been an assistant professor at IIT Kanpur.

 

IIMA honours five alumni with the Young Alumni Achiever’s Award

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) announced the winners of the 7th edition of its Young Alumni Achiever’s Awards 2021 (YAAA 2021) recently. Initiated in 2015, these awards are given to its alumni under 45 in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions.

Announcing the winners, Professor Errol D’Souza, Director, IIMA, said, “Our alumni continue to make us proud with their accomplishments across diverse fields. The IIMA Young Alumni Achievers Awards have been instituted to acknowledge and reward their distinction and contributions in making an impact in their chosen careers. For entrepreneurship, Sandeep Kumar Gupta, PGP – 2011 (Co-Founder and COO, Innovaccer). For Social/Public Service, Kaushlendra, PGDABM – 2007 (Founder, Kaushalya Foundation & Samriddhii) and Dhaval Jain, PGP – 2012 (Officer, Indian Administrative Service, Government of India)

Prof Sudhir K Jain takes charge as BHU V-C

Prof Sudhir K Jain has formally taken the charge as the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He was earlier the Director of IIT-Gandhinagar.

62-year-old Prof Sudhir K Jain is a civil engineer and he has completed three terms as the director at IIT- Gandhinagar. He is conducting intensive research and development in the areas of seismic design codes, dynamics of buildings and post- earthquake studies.

KIET shines with A+ Grade in NAAC & 2nd Rank in ARIIA

Agra’s Ambedkar University approves 135 new vocational courses under NEP

The Academic Council of Dr BR Ambedkar University, Agra, approved 135 new vocational courses under National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020). The decision was taken following a meeting of the council on Thursday.

The meeting of the Council was chaired by officiating vice-chancellor Prof Alok Kumar Rai. According to the official statement from the university, “135 vocational courses have been approved by the Academic Council, which also accepted the proposal to amend the title of some courses, as presented by the V-C. The council authorized the registrar of the university to amend titles of the courses and submit them to the executive council for approval.”

These new courses will be designed keeping in mind the NEP 2.0 and aiming at making students industry ready for better employment opportunities

Delhi Teachers University Bill passed in Assembly

The Delhi Assembly cleared a Bill for setting up a world-class teachers’ training university, offering BA-BEd and BSc-BEd programmes.

The Delhi Teachers’ University Bill was introduced in the House on Monday by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday.

According to official information, the University will be spread over 12 acres of land in Bakkarwala village. It will have lecture halls, digital labs and a library with world-class facilities for 5000 students.

The university will offer teacher education programmes such as BA-BEd and BSc-BEd to create a new generation of teachers. Students of the university will collaborate with Delhi government schools for the duration of their courses and get hands-on experience with a focus on research.

Punjab higher education students to get one-time internet allowance, announces CM Channi

The Punjab cabinet has decided to give Rs 2,000 as a one-time internet allowance to all students, studying in higher educational institutions. The move will help them to attend online classes in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases.

The decision will benefit about 8.67 lakh students. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi informed about this decision post a meeting with the state cabinet.

According to officials, the move will target all the students from higher education institutions and the districts officials have already been asked to prepare a database with the college and university authorities to ensure that no beneficiary is left out.
