Delhi HC rejects plea to appear CLAT 2020 exam from home

In a major move, the Delhi High Court has refuted the petition to take CLAT 2020 exam from home. The HC said that it cannot rule out the possibility of the Common Law Admission Test 2020 being compromised by examinees. The plea seeking candidates to allow to take CLAT 2020 from home amid COVID-19 pandemic across the country.

The court also said over 78,000 candidates seeking to appear for CLAT 2020 might not have access to appropriate technology, internet connection, laptop or desktop computer.

The order was passed on 10th September 2020 itself but was made available on the official website of Delhi HC on 16th September 2020. The plea had been filed by the petitioner on medical grounds. The Delhi HC said that the plea does not hold enough merit and also said that the order of the Supreme Court would be binding in this regard.

CLAT 2020 has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic is scheduled to be finally conducted on 28th September 2020. CLAT 2020 is a centralised exam conducted by the Consortium of the National Law Universities for the screening of candidates admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate law courses offered by the participating NLUs.

In a major development, the Delhi government has asked all schools to observe “dry day” once a week. The schools were asked to check coolers, flower pots, bird pots, water containers, stagnant water and other possible sites to prevent mosquito breeding.

The awareness campaign for school students was taken against vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya in the national capital.

The rainy season is most conducive for vector-borne diseases like dengue, chikungunya and malaria which spread during this time every year. These are all mosquito generated diseases and they sometimes gain epidemic proportions if preventive measures are not taken.

In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic all the schools are closed for students and hence all heads of schools are directed to utilize the facilities of social media and mass messaging to give instructions to students to follow at home.

Students were asked to wear full-sleeved clothing, using mosquito repellents, putting wire mesh on doors and windows to prevent entry of mosquitoes, covering all water tanks and containers with well fitted lids to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.

All schools have also been directed to appoint a nodal officer who will be responsible for all activities related to the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases and monitor the activities being carried out.

Earlier, Dr Lal was Joint Chief Executive Officer, State Health Assurance Agency, Rajasthan.

Street walls painted to teach Maths to students in Maharashtra

To impart lessons to students in innovative way, Chandrapur zilla parishad in Maharashtra has painted the walls of streets and public places with maths concepts. The initiative is taken to provide classes to poor students, who were unable to take up online classes.

The officials are planning, if Mathematics concepts become successful, the initiative will be extended to other subjects also. The idea behind it is to provide lessons to students through playful manner.

 As part of the initiative, officials of the zilla parishad’s education department have painted mathematical lessons taught in classes 1 to 5 on walls located at the main squares of villages.

Children are finding the method attractive and they are learning maths while playing with their friends. The objective of the mission is to make them understand various mathematical concepts and build their interest in the subject, while focusing on developing an overall atmosphere of education in rural areas.

With schools closed from mid-March due to Corona pandemic, many such innovative are used to teach students in rural areas by officials. From painting walls from circulating pamphlets, many ways have been used to teach students in this crisis.

Pokhriyal: National Curriculum Framework will be created for teachers

Union Minister for Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said under the National Education Policy (NEP), a new National Curriculum Framework for Teacher Education (NCFTE) will be created.

The new and comprehensive NCFTE will be formulated by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in consultation with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

The minister had also said that the government is taking multiple initiatives and actions for implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

“The NEP 2020 has been finalised after a detailed consultation process with all stakeholders including state/UT Governments. As per NEP 2020, implementation of the policy requires multiple initiatives and actions, which will have to be taken by multiple bodies in a synchronized and systematic manner,” Pokhriyal said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.

“Accordingly, this Ministry has communicated to all States/UT Governments for implementation of NEP 2020 in letter and spirit. Ministry of Education is also organising ‘ShikshakParv’ from September 8 to September 25, 2020, to deliberate on various themes and implementation of NEP 2020 aimed at eliciting suggestions,” he said.

The major reforms in school education brought by NEP 2020 include focus of Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE), national mission to focus on basic literacy and basic numeracy, no rigid separation between arts and sciences streams and removal of separation between vocational and academic and curricular and extra-curricular.

JEE Main and NEET 2020 re-exams:  PIL filed in SC to ask NTA to conduct exams

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court asking to take Suo Moto cognizance over students who were unable to attend JEE Main and NEET 200 exams conducted by NTA, earlier this month. The PIL also urged the top court to ask the NTA to allow such students to appear in re-exams conducted by it.

The exams are postponed due the pandemic across the nation. Not only pandemic, many students were not able to give exams due to floods in many parts of the country. Due to many issues, many students decided not to appear for exams. Putting safety as priority, many students opted out of the exam.

Meanwhile, after the JEE and NEET 2020 exams, the Union  Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ expressed satisfaction over both the exams conducted across the country despite COVID-19 pandemic.

As per the Education Ministry, out of 8.58 lakh applicants, 6.35 lakh appeared for the engineering test from September 1 to 6.

The plea also seeks the various state governments to arrange for the transportation and accommodation facilities for the students who would be appearing in the re-exams conducted by NTA this time.

Andhra Pradesh govt to install 45,000 smart TVs in public schools

In order to bridge the gap between private and public schools, the Andhra Pradesh state government will be installing 45,000 smart televisions in government schools. With the television installed, the state govt will ensure digital learning for students of govt schools.

The new initiative will be implemented in phases with the first phase of installation will contain 10,000 smart TVs costing a total of Rs 50 cr. The state Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials that the students should not be deprived of digital education in this pandemic.

The CM also stated that officials were also directed that students should not be left out to enjoy digital education and public schools must be equipped with centralized integrated system smart TVs.

AP Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh said “the CM has the vision to digitize 45,000 government schools by the next academic year. The officials are also working round the clock to meet the deadline for the Chief Minister’s Nadu-Nedu project for upgrading school infrastructure and reducing the student dropout rate.”

The state government also aims to make the parents think of the government schools for good education rather than sending their children to private schools at a high cost.

Education ministry releases alternative academic calendar secondary students

To ensure online education, the Ministry of Education, released the alternative academic calendar for the secondary level students for the next eight weeks.

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said that the calendar contains guidelines to impart education while the students are at home. The Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, on September 8, had released guidelines for the partial reopening of schools from September 21 on a voluntary basis for Classes 9 to 12.

However, as in previous calendars, the ministry suggests the use of technology and social media tools to impart education to students during the lockdown.

Taking the twitter, the minister, said: “This Calendar contains detailed guidelines for teachers on the use of technology and social media tools to impart education while the students are at home.”

The ministry had earlier released a 12-week alternative academic calendar for primary and upper primary students. Schools and other education institutions were shut down on March 16 following the spike in COVID-19 cases across the country.

Schools are colleges are closed across the country from mid-March due to corona pandemic.

UPSC declares NDA II results; check details

In a major development, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the NDA result 2019 at its official website. The result has been released on PDF having roll numbers of all the qualified candidates. Candidates can check the result of NDA 2 2019 from the UPSC official website- upsc.gov.in. As per the UPSC NDA 2 result 2019 notification, 662 candidates have qualified the examination.

NDA 2 2019 exam was conducted on November 17 in offline mode across the country. Candidates who have qualified the exam will undergo training at various academies to get commissioned in Indian Armed Forces. The written exam result of NDA 02/2019 was released on December 12, 2019.

NDA 1 and NDA 2 2020 was conducted on September 6 in offline mode. Earlier this year NDA 2020 was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Ministry of Education: Rs 818 cr allocated for online education

Ministry of Education has informed to the Parliament on Day 1 of Monsoon Session that it allocated a total of Rs 818 cr for promotion of online learning and education and Rs 267 cr for online teacher training.

It further added that Rs 304 cr has been allocated for training members of school management committees (SMC) on COVID-19 awareness. On similar lines, the Education Ministry has also allocated Rs 153 cr has been allocated for media and community mobilization while Rs 51 cr has been allocated for safety and security at school level. In addition to this, a sum of Rs 417 cr has been allocated for orientation of teachers on safety and security.

Education Ministry also clarified that in addition to these funds, a total of Rs 3,771 crore has been allocated under composite school grant to ensure safe school operations, sanitization and ensuring basic wash facilities, safe drinking water, availability of essentials like alcohol rub/sanitizer disinfectant, cleaning material, thermal screening facilities, etc.

 “There is no question of revising the reservation policy,” Nishank said. The NEP approved by the Union Cabinet in July replaces the 34-year-old National Policy on Education framed in 1986 and is aimed at paving the way for transformational reforms in schools and higher education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower.
