Star-studded 98th Science Congress ends on 7th Jan

Amid the constellation of several stars from India and overseas, the five-day 98th Indian Science Congress, Chennai ended on January 7th. Speaking at the valedictory function, K.C. Pandey, general president of the Indian Science Congress Association, said, “The 98th Congress was the largest with around 10,400 delegates, six Nobel laureates and around 130 scientists from India and overseas.” The Congress deliberated on the focal theme 'Quality Education and Excellence in Science Research in Indian Universities'. According to T.R. Pachamuthu, chancellor of SRM University, where it was held, the event involved an outlay of Rs.12 crore. He said, “The discussions held and resolutions made in this congress are appropriate in the context of private participation supplementing the efforts of the government in the education sector.” The 99th Congress will be held in Bhubaneswar on January 3-7, 2012. The main theme of it will be “Science and Technology for Inclusive Innovation – Role of Women”.
