130 school students in Karnataka tested Covid 19 positive recently: DPI

A total of 130 students between Classes 1 to 12 are found infected and tested COVID 19 positive in Karnataka from all 34 educational districts recently, revealed the Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

The highest Covid 19 cases have been reported in Chikkamagaluru with 92 cases. The students infected in this district are from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The data has been collated by the department and reported by the educational institutions.

In Kodagu district’s Madikeri, around 11 students of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan school reported Covid 19 positive and are studying in Class 8.

As many cluster cases of Covid 19 are reported, the government will soon send a team to inspect such institutions. Speaking in this context, B.C. Nagesh, Primary and Secondary Education Minister told a news daily that the Department of Public Instruction is likely to conduct checks to make sure people adhered to all covid protocols.

Nagesh added, “We are worried about the COVID-19 clusters but are keeping a watch on schools. We have told schools that even if one case is detected, all their primary contacts should be tested.”

On Tuesday, Karnataka recorded 299 new Covid-19 cases as reported by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Six deaths were reported from across the state and 260 people have recovered from the illness.

Speaking in this context, DSEU Vice-Chancellor, Neharika told the students that DSEU aims to bring a revolutionary change in higher education. “You all are now a part of the skill revolution of Delhi. With DSEU, we aim to bring in a change to the higher education system, making it up-to-date to the present needs of the market.”

“This is an important step towards revolutionising the education system of Delhi. We are happy to provide the youth of Delhi the opportunity and means to attain skills and expertise in the domain of their choice,” she added.

“Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we could not invite all the students to the campuses. However, this three-day orientation is our effort to bring the university to each student,” she said.

Neharika said failure is a big part of success and success comes only with consistent efforts. “It is very important to keep trying. At DSEU, we will help you learn how to learn. Remember to be persistent in your efforts and live each day as one,” she added.

21st century learning provides students with the skills that they require to succeed in the new-age learning environment. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the education industry witnessed disruption and the whole learning system has seen a change in its pedagogy.

During the Elets 20th World Education Summit 2021 held virtually on 7-9 September 2021, the panellists underscored and discussed how the education sector can deal with the challenges of 21st century learning. Aditya Berlia, Joint Secretary, Apeejay Education Society said that the students need to become good decision-makers, which will prepare them for the future. “Providing the right guidance as an educator, we will be able to help our children to make the right decision that they can cherish for life-long,” he added.

“The classroom practices need to evolve to make learning innovative. The educational institutions need to create a space for the educators to experiment. We need to upgrade the curriculum that will help kids to learn,” added Roshan Gandhi, Chief Executive Officer, City Montessori Schools.

Speaking further in this context, Dr Amrita Vohra, Executive Principal, GEMS International School said, “Students need to think critically. Learning happens when we think. If there is a problem, there will be an opportunity. The students need to work on their problems.”

Vohra added that students should learn to realise the actual root of any problem and define it. Children should be able to solve such problems independently and become focused.

The need for guidance and counselling of teachers is imperative to make educators competent and bestow effective teaching to students. “Proper teacher’s training is necessary for educational growth. Skill-based learning is widely acknowledged. It is imperative to put teacher’s training into practice and take it to our advantage,” Gandhi added further.

Dr Sharmila Mallick Choudhuri, Principal, Global Indian International School (GIIS) added that the children are missing the peer learning where students learn from each other. It is an important process of learning and such educational practice helps students tremendously. “Moreover, we need to prepare our students for the jobs that do not exist today,” she added while sharing her views during the event.

Dr S K Rathor, Founder, Chairman & Managing Director, SANFORT Group of Schools, said there is a need to develop critical thinking ability among children. Such skills are essential for 21st century learning and will create a conducive environment as well as make students ready for the future.

He added that students at the primary level should explore their interests and develop skills that are necessary for them in future.

“Focus should be given to ethics. Ethical behaviour should be imbibed in students,” Dr Gopan Gopalakrishnan, Deputy CEO, DCM Group of Schools also added further.

UP Govt. to upgrade facilities of Kasturba Gandhi Girls School

Uttar Pradesh Government to upgrade the infrastructure and facilities of Kasturba Gandhi Girls School. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a high-level meeting on Monday directed officials to appoint a nodal officer to monitor and upgrade the facilities of the schools and its hostels.

The CM Yogi also ensured proper use of technology in the schools and is committed to providing better education facilities, especially for girls.

He emphasized that the nodal officers should review the situation of the schools and fix the accountability of people unable to pay attention to details and are lax in such matters. This will help to revamp and upgrade the standards of the schools.

He further pointed out that despite the Covid 19 pandemic, the UP government ensured that the education of girls was unhindered and learning continued.

With the use of technology, the school is also providing education via e-pathshala, Doordarshan and WhatsApp. Aligning with the efforts of the government, the programmes are showcased on Youtube so that girls in the state become self-reliant and independent.

The Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Schools are being run by the state government in 746 development blocks of the state. Out of these, girls from classes 6 to 8 are being educated in 300 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and girls from classes 6 to 12 are learning in 446 Vidyalaya.

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas have also managed to provide education to the girls of Scheduled Castes/Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Minorities and BPL families with residential facilities.

IIM-Sambalpur focuses on developing women leaders in workplace and organises ‘Women Leadership’ Programme

Under its Management Development Programme (MDP), the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur organised the women leadership programme for 30 women officers of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited.

The two-day programmes will guide various aspects of the business.

IIT Madras, Tata Power to collaborate on research and development

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Tata Power to collaborate on research and development (R&D), policy advocacy, consultancy, advisory, training and commercialization of technologies and solutions.

Both parties have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as it aims to pursue advanced research in areas of future technology.

“IIT Madras is delighted to partner with Tata Power to pursue research in topics of mutual interest and national importance and provide opportunities for employees to acquire advanced knowledge in emerging areas,” Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras, said.

Speaking about the partnership, Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power, said, “We are honoured to associate with IIT Madras. Together, we will collaborate in areas of advanced technology, innovation and knowledge for sustainable changes. We are looking forward to working with some of the most talented and brilliant minds in the country.”

The institute also informed that Tata Power and IIT Madras will work together with the start-up companies in the IIT Madras incubation cell.

The two parties will collaborate on research supported by the Center for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), IIT Madras.

“Campus Recruitment will also be covered under the MoU and will involve recruitment of IIT Madras graduates for full-time employment or as interns by Tata Power subject to the company’s organizational needs. This activity will be facilitated by the Placement Office, IIT Madras,” an official statement said.

Employees of Tata Power can enrol for Mtech, MS and PhD programmes at IIT Madras. They can collaborate to offer short-term training programmes.

“Tata Power and IIT Madras can also come together to engage in the CSR realm. The company can also choose to make grants to support faculty research or to support students on scholarships and fellowships,” IIT Madras added.

Edtech unicorn to acquire higher education platform Talentedge for over Rs 300-400 crore. The deal is likely to be the largest consolidation in India’s higher education.

PM Modi to inaugurate AIIMS Bilaspur in 2022: JP Nadda

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bilaspur next year, said BJP’s National President JP Nadda.

The health institute will be fully operational by June next year and it is expected that the Prime Minister will inaugurate it and grace the occasion in 2022 Nanda told while inaugurating the outpatient department of AIIMS.

He mentioned that Rs 2,000 crore will be spent on running the institute. Currently, 22 AIIMS are set up across the country and an investment of Rs 44,000 crores will be required, which will be kept aside for this purpose.

Union minister and local MP Anurag Thakur added that once the AIIMS Bilaspur is fully functional, it will cater to the needs of the patients and no one will have to visit AIIMS Delhi for treatment.

IIT-Bombay witnessed 50 per cent increase in placement since last year

The placement season is going on at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay), there has been a 50 per cent rise in the selection of candidates as compared to last year.

By the end of Day 2, IIT Bombay had 756 students with job offers that is higher than last year. In 2020, the figure was 503 students got selected and placed. B V Rani Shankar, training and placement officer added that eight international companies have made good offers.

“We are hopeful to end the placement season with good selections with 25 percent more companies participating this year,” B.V. Ravi Shankar, Training and Placement Officer said.
IIT Guwahati had 530 job offers on its day 2 of placement drive and has seen 50.14 per cent higher placement offers since last year.

IIT Roorkee has recorded many international offers in the placement season. “Thirty-one international job offers have been made in the first three days and the total job offers stand at 810, by the end of day three. We are expecting this year to be the best placement season compared to the last few years,” said the IIT Roorkee placement team, which has been published in a news daily.

Puducherry Schools To Resume For Classes 1-8 From Monday

All schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions would resume schools from Monday for classes 1 to 8.

The Director of School Education, Rudra Goud, said that the classes will be conducted half a day for classes 1 to 8 and all safety measures will have to be followed in the schools.

The schools remained closed in March 2020 due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Although the schools were expected to reopen in November, the date got postponed.

The government has decided that classes for standards one, three, five and seven will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. However, classes for standards two, four, six and eight will be conducted on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The classes have started for 9 to 12 standards for some months now.
