Environmental issues to receive educational programmes

UNESCO and NGO Green Energy Foundation and Unesco are to join hands June 5 to launch an education-cum-training programme called 'Ecovarsity' which will focus on environmental issues. It was reported by Sharmila Oswal, President, Green Energy Foundation, that the foundation is to enter into tie-ups with reputed divserse universities from around the world for the programmes, which include three-day workshops, certificate training courses, distant-learning degree courses of the duration of six months to one year (to be handled by Unesco), vocational courses and research programmes, which are open to all.

The programmes aims to focus on preserving nature and preventing environmental degradation and will cover topics like solid-, liquid- and zero-waste management, vermicomposting, energy management, carbon footprints, biodiversity, climate change, sewage treatment, green building, among others. The programme faculty will have experts from Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi.
