Parliament to see a bill for super regulatory body for education in India

In the monsoon session of Parliament, it was reported that the National Commission on Higher Education & Research (NCHER) Bill is likely to be presented. The NCHER Bill seeks to establish a super regulator body for education in the country. On June 17, 2010, the second draft on NCHER bill is to be presented to the Central Advisory Board on Education (CABE), which is the highest advisory body on education in the country. Once the proposal is finalised, it will be taken to the cabinet.

If the bill is passed, all the professional colleges in the country will be governed by NCHER. Then, it would e required of all the universities and colleges to seek accreditation from NCHER and the bill also proposes to do away with the current practice of voluntary application for accreditation.
