President Pranab Mukherjee presented 42 awards on the eve of Children’s Day, acknowledging various projects undertaken by kids from across the country. The President also awarded various child welfare institutions for their exceptional achievements on the occasion.
The awards were divided in three categories — National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievements, National Awards for Child Welfare and Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award. The recipients were categorised as paralympics swimmer, a chess player, an equestrian, students with keen interest in music and those with several technological innovations under their belt.
Shubhendu Kumar Sahu from Odisha was awarded National Child Award for ‘Exceptional Achievement’ on November 14 at Rashtrapati Bhawan. The boy recently made it to the zonal-level science exhibition held in Kolkata for his science project, ‘Gift for Farmers’. He was also ranked first in a state-level creative writing competition organised in Bhubaneswar last year.
In the award ceremony, all deserving candidates were given a gift cheque along with a medal.
