The Board of Governors of IIM Calcutta has unanimously selected Prof Uttam Kumar Sarkar as the institute’s next Director. A long-serving faculty member and former Director (2021–2023), Prof Sarkar will lead one of India’s premier management institutions into its next phase of growth and global expansion.
Prof Sarkar, from the Management Information Systems group, has been associated with IIM Calcutta for several years and has held multiple academic and administrative positions. The Board highlighted his deep understanding of the institution’s history, culture, and global aspirations.
According to IIM Calcutta, Prof Sarkar presented a pragmatic vision focused on strengthening research, academic excellence, international collaborations, and institutional development. The Board also acknowledged the contributions of Prof Subir Bhattacharya, who served as Director-in-Charge during the interim period.
