UGC to disburse pending scholarship

According to reports, the University Grants Commission will disburse the pending amounts for Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and Senior Research Fellows (SRF) within a weeks’ time. Officials have reportedly confirmed that the pending emoluments for JRFs and SRFs will be disbursed within a week. Several research fellows have spoken about not receiving their JRF and SRF scholarship amounts for a prolonged period.

UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain has said that the disbursal in JRF and SRF scholarship amounts have been delayed owing to technical issues. He said that the technical issues due to which the disbursal of scholarships had been delayed are now resolved. He said that along with the existing emoluments, the backlog will also be cleared and fellowships will be deposited in the respective accounts of the students within a week.

The UGC grants JRF fellowship scheme for candidates who qualify in the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) or the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) NET conducted by the National Testing Agency as a joint test. The tenure of the UGC JRF fellowship is initially for two years and subsequently, the Junior Research Fellowship is converted to Senior Research Fellowship after fulfilment of the requisite conditions. The fellowship amount for JRF scholar is Rs. 31000 while that of an SRF scholar is Rs. 38000

The UGC NET and CSIR NET is usually conducted twice a year in the months of June and December.
