Krea University, the private institute founded with the support of former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, among others, announced Wednesday the appointment of Ashoka University professor Mahesh Rangarajan as the next Vice Chancellor.
Rangarajan, former director of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, currently teaches history and environmental science at Ashoka University.
A statement from the University of Krea in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, said the appointment ended the investigation that had started six months ago.
“The search committee began by asking members of the Krea community about the attributes and priorities of the new Vice Chancellor. Based on these contributions, we created a job description and disseminated it widely throughout our vast university network to invite applications. This led to around 25 compelling applications for the position from around the world, whether from Australia, India or the United States, ”the university said.

The search committee went through a rigorous evaluation process and, at the end of this rigorous process, made its final recommendation to Chancellor N Vaghul, who was Dr. Mahesh Rangarajan was appointed the next Vice Chancellor of Krea University as of July from 2021.
“We found that Mahesh is not only an inspiring scholar, but also a serious institution builder with a passion for what we wanted to do in Krea. Mahesh joined the Krea community on July 7, 2021 and chose to live on the Sri City campus, ”said Kapil Viswanathan, Chairman of the Research Committee Executive Committee Co-Chair.
Rangarajan will succeed Dr Sundar Ramaswamy, whose term ends in June this year.
