No ban on mobile phones, dress code says AICTE

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) have decided not to enforce dress code and restrict the use of mobile phones in the engineering colleges of the country.

AICTE has also proposed to introduce self- defense training for female students across engineering and technical institutes. The council will soon finalise on the decision of introducing the training programme.

According to recent media report, AICTE was planning to curtail the usage of mobile phones in college campus and introduce dress code and ask the engineering and technical institutes to install CCTV in the common areas to ensure the safety and security of the female students.

However, there is no such rule with regard to mandatory installation of  CCTV cameras in engineering and technical institutes approved by AICTE. Some colleges in the country have installed cameras in common areas to ensure the safety and security of the students in the campus at their own will.
