Delhi University launches integrated e-learning platform

In the light of Coronavirus epidemic, yhe University of Delhi has launched a unique initiative called ‘One DU’ under which it has integrated all the e-learning resources offered by the varsity on a single platform. One DU platform will promote online education across teaching departments, colleges, centres, and other affiliated bodies.

The university released a detailed circular confirming the launch of ‘One DU’ programme and also highlighted its importance, aims and objectives that it will cater to.

The One DU programme has been envisioned by the varsity as an initiative that will cater to the e-learning needs of the students, especiall in the current circumstances. Through this programme, the University will Generate and Disseminate e-Resources, as and when required.

With the help of Delhi University Computer Centre (DUCC), the varsity plans to augment and streamline online education by providing the necessary resources to across teaching departments, colleges, centres, and other affiliated bodies.

The varsity has formulated a ‘One DU Apex Committee’ which has members from departments, centres, colleges and DUCC. Such diverse representation will help incorporate multiple perspectives as part of One DU programme, from both, a pedagogical standpoint as well as technical efficiency of delivering them to the students through e-learning resources.

PM Modi to deliver speech on New Education Policy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Conclave on ‘Transformational Reforms in Higher Education under National Education Policy’. The University Grants Commission and Ministry of Education are jointly organising the conclave. PM Modi will deliver the inaugural address through video conferencing.

The conclave will comprise of various sessions that will discuss the different aspects of higher education encompassed by the new National Education Policy, 2020. The topics of higher education to be discussed during the sessions include Holistic, Quality Research, Multidisciplinary and Futuristic education and Equitable use of technology for better reach in Education.

Among the other participants of the conclave are Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Union Minister of State for HRD Sanjay Dhotre. Notable speakers such as UGC Chairman, AICTE Chairman, UGC Secretary, VCs, members of the Committee for Draft NEP and Directors, and Principals from eminent institutes, universities and colleges will partake in the discussions during the sessions.

The new NEP 2020 which was unveiled recently includes some major reforms in school and higher education such as shift from 10+2 framework of education to 5+3+3+4 years in school curriculum emphasizing on a strong base of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) from age 3 onwards. Changes introduced include no definitive distinction between streams to encourage multi-disciplinary choices along with focus on research and research driven institutions.

India is becoming an education hub in the coming days. People from many parts of the globe are coming to India to study. Gujarat is one of the leading states of India in terms of education, innovation and economic growth.

The growth model followed by Gujarat has exhibited excellence in innovation and has shown immense potential for growth and development. The success of the Gujarat model is evident from the influx of major automakers who have set up operations in the state as well as many other industries that are in the process of doing the same. This has displayed a healthy trajectory of establishing industrial supremacy which is only set to grow in the coming years. Even historically, the state of Gujarat is well regarded as the home for many successful entrepreneurs who found their start-up in the state.

Gujarat being home to some of the oldest universities of the country has always maintained a dedicated focus towards education whilst also establishing itself as an industry-oriented state.

Gujarat Higher Education department in association with digitalLEARNING Magazine conducted a two-day conclave named “Study in Gujarat”. Many govt and private universities have participated in the two-day conclave.

PR Dave, Jt. Director Technical Education said “We have organized domestic and international roadshows. We will focus on admissions in professional courses. Now the ratio is govt has 50 pc and management has 50 pc seats. Students from other states and foreign students can take admission in govt institutions. Students can take admission through JEE Mains exams. For Pharmacy colleges 95 pc reserved for Gujarat and other 5 pc for other states”.

He also said “We have started online admission for professional courses and it will happen as it was earlier. The fees will be decided by the panel.”

Anju Sharma, IAS, Principal Secretary (Education), Education Dept said “We have many govt institutions in Gujarat. We have started a platform for students and teachers. Online teaching is been conducted and admission are also started virtually. The state has started 50 pc for govt and 50 pc for management quota in govt institutions.”

She also said “All institutions have been three doing their best to provide education in the state.”

G T Pandya, IAS, Director of Technical Education said “This initiative will put Gujarat in the global hub of education. We have introduced a programme called Study in Gujarat. The programme will enhance the scope of Gujarat in the education sector. I thank all the participants.”

M. Nagrajan, IAS, Director, Higher Education said “Gujarat is making its presence felt in the education sector. We have conducted six international roadshows and eight across the country. The programme will showcase the arrival of Gujarat in the educational scene. The knowledge eminence will also be recognized of Gujarat due to the programme. “

He also said “We have launched ‘Udyam’ to provide online education during the pandemic across the state. We are trying to fill the critical gap with the sector in this pandemic. Many universities are making efforts to provide online education to students.”

Navin Sheth, VC, Gujarat Technological University said “We run the IEP programme and around 400 students from Gujarat go to study outside the country for 12 months. We also run a winter school programme for foreign students. Our university has an incubation centre as there are 400 startups.”

Dr Neerja Arun, Principal, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan said “The Gujarat University has single window admission process. Gujarat University has own incubators, tinker labs. It hosts 300 foreign countries students. It has provisions on online admissions. It has a world-class infrastructure. The University is privileged with its alumina.”

Nandini Kannan, Associate Professor, M. S. University of Baroda said “The vision of our University to spread education across the society. We have started many new programmes for students. MSU is the only state University with a residential, unitary character having English as sole medium of instruction with more than 1200 well-qualified faculty members and 1500 administrative staff to facilitate the learning of more than 35000 students having cosmopolitan life on campus.”

Dr Yogesh Shah, professor, IITRAM-Institute of Infrastructure Technology Research and Management said “Our main vision to impart science and technology in Higher Education sector. We have a state of art laboratory. IIITRAM is one of the best institutions in the country in engineering sector. “

Dr Vyas, Director General, Gujarat Forensic Science University said “It’s a first university of its own kinds. The programmes are very unique. Our mission is to provide forensic experts to the country. We are aiming to provide world class academics to students. We even provide training to officers from different sectors.”

He also said the university emphasized on research and technology. We have 4000 students and 75 foreigners, who come to our university for training, he said.

Prof. (Dr.) S. Shanthakumar Director Gujarat National Law University, Gujarat, India said “We are a research-based university. We have a 50-acre university campus. We have been ranked 7th Law University in NIRF Rankings. We have a good placement record. We have many UG and PG programmes. Our faculty members are all PHD. We are incubating law firms startups. Getting in GNLU is very tough.”

Harikrishna Parikh, Asst Professor, Saurashtra University said “It is one of the largest universities across the state. We are providing 108 on-campus and 200 programmes through our affiliated institutes. We provide programmes from Diploma to PhD level. We are a facilitator for grooming students. We have a highly qualified teaching staff.”

Prof Rajesh Patel, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University said “Our University located in Surat. Surat is one of the most developing cities in the country. It’s a state university and we cover 7 districts. Our vision is to become an excellence in Higher Education. We provide 36 PG courses in campuses. We have 36 research projects. We have 34 govt affiliated colleges and many private ones. We have 17 labs for research. “

Pankaj Chandra, Vice Chancellor, Ahmedabad University said “Ahmedabad University is a private, non-profit institution established in 2009. We offer a range of diverse, rigorous academic programmes to enable students to grow into well-rounded leaders. Our programmes include undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies in areas such as engineering, life sciences, management, arts, and computer science.”

Mona Kakkar, Head of Admission, CEPT University said “CEPT University focuses on understanding, designing, planning, constructing and managing human habitats. Its teaching programs aim to build thoughtful professionals and its research programs deepen understanding of human settlements. CEPT University also undertakes advisory projects to further the goal of making habitats more liveable. “

IIT Kanpur signs MoU with Alliance Francaise to teach French to students

To provide extra mile to students in the times of Coronavirus, IIT Kanpur has signed a MoU with Alliance Francaise to teach French language to BTech students. The students will learn the French language through online mode.

The NEP also advocates multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary curriculum in coming days. The course will be treated as credit course.

Earlier, IIT Kanpur has inked MoU with Ministry of Defence and the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) for developing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques to analyse public grievances.

The MoU envisages IIT Kanpur to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to conduct an exploratory and predictive analysis of public grievances received on the web-based Centralised Public Grievances Redress and Monitoring System pertaining to the MoD.

Byju’s acquires WhiteHat Jr for $300M

Byju’s, India’s largest online learning firm, has acquired Mumbai-based education technology (edtech) start-up WhiteHat Jr in an all-cash deal worth $300 million.

Online coding classes have become the newest battle for supremacy for startups, with 1.5 year old WhiteHat Jr. having a revenue run-rate of $150 million at the time of its sale, the startup said.

“Technology is at the centre of every human interaction today and we had set out to create a coding curriculum that was being delivered live and connected students and teachers like never before. Integration with a visionary company such as BYJU’S will help take this idea to new heights and help unleash the remarkable creative potential of kids at a global scale,” Founder and CEO of WhiteHat Jr. Karan Bajaj said.

The acquisition marks Byju’s entry into the fast-growing computer code training segment targeted at high school and college students.

WhiteHat currently offers live online coding classes to children in the age group of 6 to 14 and helps them build commercial-ready games, animations and apps. Its subscription packages are priced between Rs 6,000 to Rs 1 lakh, depending on the number of classes. It currently offers three packages of 8, 48 and 144 classes, respectively.

Byju’s, which started out by providing online classes for students from kindergarten to Class 12 (K12), it recently ventured into live classes, test preparation and entrance exams as well.

OP Jindal University appoints Dr Mohan Kumar as Dean of the office of international affairs & global initiatives

OP Jindal Global University has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Mohan Kumar as Dean of the office of international affairs & global initiatives.

Dr Kumar has had an outstanding career in the Indian Foreign Service lasting 36 years which culminated in his being India’s Ambassador to France based in Paris. Under his watch, the Indo-French strategic partnership was strengthened and consolidated further in spheres such as defense, space, nuclear & solar energy, smart cities and investment.

Earlier, Dr Kumar was India’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain where he witnessed and dealt with a strategically complex region characterized by events such as the Arab Spring.

Dr Kumar also has strategic understanding of India’s ties with some of her key neighbours such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Maldives. He oversaw India’s ties with these countries as Joint Secretary and Head of the Division at the Ministry of External Affairs.

Dr Kumar holds a Master’s In Business Administration (MBA) from the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi and a Doctorate (Ph.D) from Sciences Po University, Paris.

DU Teachers seeks President Kovind’s intervention over not payment of salaries

Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has started an online petition, seeking President Ram Nath Kovind’s intervention in resolving the issue of non-payment of salaries to employees of 12 DU colleges fully funded by the Delhi government.

“Several thousand employees of these colleges have gone without salaries from May onwards. Some colleges could only pay partial salaries for April. Colleges have not received any funding for infrastructure or teachers’ posts towards EWS expansion,” DUTA said.

The teachers’ body accused the Delhi government of using the tactic of withholding funds as a strategic weapon in its tussle with the university over nominating people to the college governing bodies.

DU and the Delhi government have been locked in a tussle over the formation of governing bodies in 28 colleges, partially or fully funded by the city government, with both accusing the other of delaying the process.

The Delhi government had released Rs 18.75 crore as grant-in-aid for payment of salaries to employees of 12 University of Delhi (DU) colleges funded by it in June, which the DUTA had called as ‘insufficient’. Prior to that, the government had also sanctioned grant-in-aid in May, which was also termed as ‘inadequate’ by the teachers’ body.

Haryana to open over 100 Sanskriti Model Schools

To boost the New Education Policy, the Haryana government has recently decided to open more ‘Sanskriti Model Schools’. The move has been taken to further improve the quality of education.

Cabinet Minister Kanwar Pal said that apart from the 22 schools already functioning the state would be opening more schools.

The decision was taken in a meeting held that also discussed the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 along with other issues. A total of 104 Sanskriti Model Schools would be operational once more schools are opened, he added.

“These schools will further improve the quality of education in the state,” he said. The Government of Haryana has also decided to open 1,000 play way schools. These would help in providing quality education and learning in the students aged three to six years.

Recently officers were directed to upgrade Anganwadi centres, which were currently running inside the premises of primary schools, into smart learning play ways by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The chief minister had said, “ the curriculum of these schools should be designed in the form of animations and audio-visuals to help children enhance their cognitive learning.”

Recently the schools in Haryana had been allowed by the High Court to collect the school fee in lieu of the online classes they were conducting.

Samsung launches industry-academia programme for engineering students

Samsung, country’s one of the largest consumer electronics and smartphone brand, has launched a unique industry-academia program – Samsung PRISM (Preparing and Inspiring Student Minds). The new initiative will stimulate the Indian innovation ecosystem, and build capabilities among students that meet industry needs.

The programme, which will be run by Samsung R&D Institute Bangalore (SRI-B), aimed to involve engineering colleges that are in the top positions of the Government of India’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings.

The SRI-B has so far signed MoUs with 10 engineering colleges. It will add more colleges over the next few months.

Once the program rolls out, SRI-B will collaborate with students and faculty at these engineering colleges, giving them research as well as development projects to be executed over four to six months. Students will get to work on projects in cutting edge technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence (including vision tech), Machine Learning, Internet of Things & Connected Devices and 5G networks, to solve real world problems.

NIOS declares Class 12th Results; check all the details

NIOS Board has put an end to the long and agonizing wait of nearly 3 lakh students, by declaring NIOS Class 12 Results 2020. According to the official announcement NIOS Class 12 Results 2020 for Senior Secondary Public Exam of March 2020, have been officially announced by the NIOS Board. Following the formal announcement, students can now log onto the official website of the board i.e. nios.ac.in.

Taking the COVID-19 situation into consideration and also to ensure easy access to the NIOS Result 2020 for Senior Secondary students, the board will be making the NIOS Class 12 Results available to them online via official website.

With lakhs of students trying to check and access their NIOS Class 12 Results at the same time, the official website may suffer from technical difficulties.
